About this Event
This is the last of just three milongas I am running this year at Beeston Parish Church for sublime bank holiday afternoons of tango.
This time we will be joined by two excellent teachers: Marcelino Fernández, from Argentina, who is a well known and popular teacher locally, who has teamed up for this event with Raquel Greenberg.
Raquel runs a successful dance school in London. She has been dancing since she was 12 and developed as a tango dancer in 1998 receiving tuition from a succession of Maestro greats including Carlos Gavito, Osvaldo Zotto & Lorena Ermocida , Roberto Herrera, Gustavo Naveira & Giselle Anne, and Javier Rodriguez & Geraldine Rojas.
If you want to improve the way you look in tango, Raquel is your teacher. She describes her style as "the outcome of fusion between traditional tango and modern tendencies, having studied worked and danced with old age milongueros, great masters of the traditional style and the leaders of 'new age' tango."
"Elegance, grace, musicality and aesthetics within the embrace – the soul of tango, are her guidelines.
There are two very reasonably priced private lessons available for singles or couples at 12.15pm and 1.15pm.
Please note the slightly later than usual start for the group drop-in class at 2.30pm and later than usual start for the milinga of 3.30pm. The class will be pitched at immediate to advanced level. It will not be suitable for anyone at beginner level.
Marcelino will also be the selector for this event. He is a popular TDJ so expect a lively varied and classic set.
The church is a gorgeous place to dance with sun (usually) streaming through the stained glass in the late afternoon.
There will also be a buffet which is usually very very popular and on a "first come first served basis" so you will need to be there at 3.30pm sharp if want to get a look in on the food front; it has largely disappeared within an hour. One of the reasons the food tends to go is because I often do not know how many to cook for and I end up under catering. It would be courteous and a great help to me in knowing how many are coming at least four days before the milonga by marking yourselves as "going" rather than just "interested" or messaging me an RSVP if you want to be coy about attendance publicly.
Class £10
Milonga £15
Both £20
Exact cash please or contactless on the door. You could get in free if you get to the church at 12.30pm to help me set up.
Thhe church is three miles from J25 of the M1 and there is lots of free parking close by including municipal car parks which are free on bank holidays. It is also walking distance from the Beeston Railway Station which is on the main London mainline and also next to a tram stop which goes all the way to Nottingham Railway Station. The address of the church is Middle Street, Beeston, NG9 1GA.
