ECSTATIC DANCE EVOLUTION HOUSTON DANCE. PLAY. SWEAT. PRAY. KICK OFF YOUR SHOES Welcome home! Relax and unwind from the week. Dancing barefoot grounds us and helps us feel free to move and stretch our bodies in natural and authentic ways! BREATHE Take time to enter your dance mindfully. How does your body feel today? Breathe into your body and sense your contact the earth. Notice where you are in space. Feel the music and let it pull you into movement. MOVE INTO THE DANCE We love to dance like no-one is watching (and they’re likely not) to a wide variety of deliciously danceable music. There is no teacher here and no steps to learn. You are free to move and groove as your intuitive (or wise) body guides you. Feel free to explore improvisational creativity like never before with other like-minded movers. Be prepared to see people dancing alone, with a partner, in a group, in contact with one or more others, or witnessing in stillness to take it all in. The environment is non-verbal so your dance won’t be interrupted by chit chat. We enjoy a safe and sacred space to express our true selves and have fun. As with any Dance class - respect, mindfulness, and kindness rule here. LISTEN TO THE MUSIC EDE DJ curators play artistic, soul-stirring, fresh music of all genres and tempos - yet, I bet there are not too many songs you will recognize! Our DJs take great care in creating unique musical journeys aligned with the abiding intent of Ecstatic Dance - transformation! The variety of sounds are designed to nourish our human need for physical, mental, energetic, emotional, and spiritual expression. MOVE YOUR BODY EDE is a mix of improvisational and multicultural forms of Dance and Non-Dance including: freeform, fusion, contact improvisation, meditation, yoga, blues, ballroom, ballet, butoh, bachata, belly dance, swing, salsa, chi gong, freestyle, merengue, jazz, contemporary, tai chi, zeibekiko, etc. Basically, any move that moves you in the moment is welcome. EVENT FORMAT ~Class:10-10:30 am ~Warm Up: 10:30–10:55 am ~Opening Circle: 10:55–11:05 am ~Main Dance: 11:05-12:30 pm ~Closing Circle: 12:30-1 pm ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ OUR CONSCIOUS DANCE Each event welcomes all experience levels, newcomers, and is multicultural, multigender, intergenerational, and family friendly. We intend this Dance to be fun, welcoming, and liberating for all people, so there are guidelines we follow to keep it safe. PLEASE RESPECT THESE GUIDELINES as our IMPROV SCORE: *Alcohol free, drug free, smoke free, and substance free - to practice healthy connection and natural highs. *Nonverbal space - to increase inner focus and sensory awareness. *Barefoot, sockfoot or soft soles - for balance, grounding, and exploration. *Drop judgments and expectations of self and others - to enhance creativity and self-expression. *Give permission to self and others to be authentic, sincere, playful, wild, and free. There are experienced and new dancers at each event with different comfort levels. We encourage you to respect your own comfort levels and do your best to respect others. ***You may dance solo, in partnership, or in a group. ***Use body language, eye contact, or prayer hands to request a dance. ***Develop new dance partnerships by approaching with care from the front. ***If you are NOT getting the “YES” body language for a dance, consider it a “NO” and move away without taking it personally - everyone is in their own process. ***You may leave a dance at any time without need to justify - follow your wise body's promptings. ***Contact Improvisation is welcome - please know your limits and learn more at 10am class. ***By entering this dance, know that you may experience touch and are empowered to enjoy it, or, make your comfort levels and boundaries kindly known to any dancer - without need to justify. #GIVELOVE! #LIVELOVE! #BELOVE! ***RADICAL SELF RESPONSIBILITY - take care of yourself and ask for assistance from a Facilitator or Front Desk if needed. ***EMPOWERED ACTION - you are empowered to speak to any dancer (outside of the space) to clarify intentions and comfort level requests. You are welcome to arrive anytime. 10-10:30am CLASS - Meet other dancers and learn HOW TO’S of Ecstatic Dance - On being a safe dancer that others want to dance with, freeform movement principles, contact with the environment, self, and others - includes some contact improvisation instruction. Learn or ask about safe touch, getting a non-verbal “yes”, and any other questions are welcome.
