About this Event

Hilltop dance medicine as the sun sets! Welcome Dance Lovers! You are invited to dance it out in nature with a group of fun, friendly and passionate people! Ecstatic dance connects us with our bodies as we move, stretch and enjoy the rhythms of music that inspire us to awaken our physical senses, heal our body, soothe our emotional and mental fields and connect with the vibrancy of life within and around. Surrounded by nature and in a group we connect with the simple pleasure of being in nature and community. Sunset on Devil's Dyke - National Trust! This is such a beautiful spot for a sunset & moonrise! Expansive views, rolling hills and sheltered woodland. In the case of bad weather we will be based in the woodland area. Resident DJ & Facilitator - Anna-Lisa! Anna-Lisa has a pure love of creating space for transformation, expression and expansion through the body. Weaving her knowledge and experience from energetic, physical, therapeutic and creative trainings she creates layered dance landscapes to both dive deep into the body and explore, reflect and process our inner worlds. With a mix of global rhythms, progressive house & melodic techno and touching folk and classical beats Anna-Lisa brings the embodied feminine presence to allow for participants unique essence to flourish. The nourishing music landscape creates a sacred temple space to come home to ourselves through movement, embodiment and self love. Founder of Ecstatic Dance Brighton and co-founder of Brighton Sober Parties and Girls Like Bass (Women’s Sober Rave) she is a community innovator and leader. She has been running sober community experiences since May 2020. Prior to that she was a Tao Movement Wellbeing Practitioner and Art Therapist. At 13 Anna-Lisa was awarded the trophy for 'most enthusiastic dancer’ at school. Dance became a passion in her spare time including swing, salsa, gumboot and bellydance. At university she trained as a samba dancer and performed in clubs and carnivals including Notting Hill Carnival. During her training in Art Therapy she experienced Dance as therapy for the first time, later discovering 5 rhythms and Ecstatic Dance. “After a challenging personal time where i lost a sense of my value, conscious dance practice became the way i rediscovered my vitality and self. I remembered my strength and allowed all parts of myself to be welcomed home. I could be wild, shy, messy, elegant all within a few hours. I found joy in just being me. I integrated so many lost parts and felt more whole and at home again in my body and life.” https://www.mixcloud.com/AnnaLisaDrew/ Insta - @anna.lisa.drew What to Bring/Wear Bring some water or a warm drink if its a cool day. Wear comfy clothes you can move and dance in. About Ecstatic Dance Ecstatic Dance is based in the natural understanding that our bodies know how they need and want to move in order to heal, strengthen, release and be nourished. Our ancestors practised rhythmic dancing to drums and chanting for centuries. Ecstatic Dance is based in this ancient practice of tuning in to the free movement desired by your body to shake and awaken your being into higher states of awareness, to release stress and trauma and to reconnect with your inner truth, beauty and enjoyment of life. I give some guidance to start and then you are invited to listen and move with your internal prompting. There will be a mix of slow, fast, playful, touching music and many styles including tribal, world, dance, folk, downtempo and ambient moods. You may have many different feelings, thoughts, experiences come up! Dance with them ALL! If you feel pain, tune in, is this something to gently move with and feel or do you need to change your movement or rest? If you feel tired, is this old, stagnant 'tired' feelings being released that you can keep dancing through, or do you need to slow down? There is no right or wrong way to move! Enjoy connecting with your body and the music and allow your journey to unfold.
