About this Event
Hilltop dance medicine as the sun sets!
Welcome Dance Lovers!
You are invited to dance it out in nature with a group of fun, friendly and passionate people! Ecstatic dance connects us with our bodies as we move, stretch and enjoy the rhythms of music that inspire us to awaken our physical senses, heal our body, soothe our emotional and mental fields and connect with the vibrancy of life within and around. Surrounded by nature and in a group we connect with the simple pleasure of being in nature and community.
Sunset on Devil's Dyke - National Trust!
This is such a beautiful spot for a sunset & moonrise! Hopefully we will have clear weather, if it is especially windy or any rain forecast i will need to either cancel the dance or arrange an alternative location. All tickets would be refunded or offered an alternative dance.
International Guest DJ & Facilitator - Bernice Raabis!
‘I love to dance, and I love people. More than anything, I love helping people find their love of dance and watching them use its power to open to their full potential."
A lifetime dancer, Bernice's passion is to awaken the dancer in others. She believes that the body has the potential to unlock one's own inner wisdom and wants to help you find that key with her musical medicine. She is a longtime dance facilitator and DJ and the founder of Dance the Medicine, an international academy for conscious dance professionals. This includes the DTM DJ School, where she teaches beginning and established DJs to create the ‘magic carpet ride’ style sets unique in the conscious dance world. One of the best parts of her job is playing sets for former students and colleagues, as together we conspire to infect the world with conscious dance spaces so that everyone everywhere has a place to be in community and dance their medicine.
What to Bring/Wear
Bring some water or a warm drink if its a cool day.
Wear comfy clothes you can move and dance in. If that happens to be pink sparkly hot pants go for it, but pyjamas are also welcome! Wear layers and bring a warm jumper or coat to put on after. I recommend dancing barefoot on the earth to release, heal & ground your energetics.
Bring a blanket or warm layers to keep warm as the sunsets and a mat if you want something to lie on outside.
Children
Are very welcome! Headsets have their own volume control to make it a suitable sound level for each individual.
Weather
Hopefully conditions will be bright & dry! But if it looks damp please bring anoraks or wet weather clothing. We aim to keep going through all weather's, but in the case of extreme weather we will cancel the dance by 12pm on the day and will refund your ticket.
Location/Time
Meet at Devil's Dyke Car Park 645pm at the bench opposite the pub. Dance begins at 7pm.
Devil's Dyke a public nature area so there will be others around! Let's be happy to share our beautiful individual expressions with anyone passing by!
Headsets
This is a 'silent disco' style set up! Please look after the headsets - they cost around £40 each to replace if damaged! Do not place them on the ground .
Refunds/Exchanges
Refunds are only available if the organisers have to cancel the event. Please arrange exchanges between yourselves in my community whatsapp group or facebook page.
About Ecstatic Dance
Ecstatic Dance is based in the natural understanding that our bodies know how they need and want to move in order to heal, strengthen, release and be nourished. Our ancestors practised rhythmic dancing to drums and chanting for centuries. Ecstatic Dance is based in this ancient practice of tuning in to the free movement desired by your body to shake and awaken your being into higher states of awareness, to release stress and trauma and to reconnect with your inner truth, beauty and enjoyment of life.
I give some guidance to start and then you are invited to listen and move with your internal prompting. There will be a mix of slow, fast, playful, touching music and many styles including tribal, world, dance, folk, downtempo and ambient moods. You may have many different feelings, thoughts, experiences come up! Dance with them ALL! If you feel pain, tune in, is this something to gently move with and feel or do you need to change your movement or rest? If you feel tired, is this old, stagnant 'tired' feelings being released that you can keep dancing through, or do you need to slow down? There is no right or wrong way to move! Enjoy connecting with your body and the music and allow your journey to unfold.
