'Swing Around the World!' - Holiday edition

Come nerd out on jazz history, and share your best tunes with our international community of swing DJs! Usually we have Katie, Jean-Michel, and Phalgun running things behind the scenes. But this event will have all three of them don the role of a Spotlight DJ for the first time for this holiday edition of Swing DJ Relay! Our theme for the month is going to be 'Swing Around The World', where each of us will play songs from all over the world. Like every month we will kick things off with an open set where anyone can call dibs to play tunes - just justify why your song is a good follow-up to the one that was just played. Newer DJs, we would love to hear your favourite tunes! Then we'll have Katie, Jean-Michel, and Phalgun trade tunes for a short set that will feature songs from around the world. Although jazz and swing originated in the US from the Black community, it has its reach in all corners of the world and we wish to highlight that in our Spotlight set this month. And finally we'll continue from where our Spotlight DJs left off and open the floor to all of you again so we can build a playlist together based on this month's theme! This event is designed to be beginner friendly, educational, and most importantly fun for everyone involved - step in the virtual DJ booth and share your favourite swing songs with our international DJ community! Priority on who gets to play a song will be determined as follows: 1. Top priority goes to the person who has not yet had the opportunity to share a song during the event. 2. If there are multiple people who fit this criteria, the tiebreaker will be the time stamp of the Chat message. 3. If there are multiple people who have already DJed during the event, priority goes to the person who DJed “longer” ago. Zoom link will be posted 15 min before the event.
