Swing AVL Dance w The Bailsmen & Community Jam

It's our favorite night of the month, so get to THE BLOCK off Biltmore for the Community Jazz Jam -- this month kicking off with a special first set by The Bailsmen! There will be swingin' music and a great foundational class series begins! Brooklyn’s The Bailsmen play vibrant Hot Jazz and Gypsy Swing. Their sound is straight from New York by way of New Orleans, nodding to Django Reinhardt, Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Classics and originals all enjoy a fresh spin by these young musicians. The Bailsmen are Abraham Pollack on bass; Brandon Vetrano, guitar; Charlie Castelluzzo, guitar; and Gabriel Evan, sax. The Bailsmen are proud to be releasing their third, lively studio album, From Up Top, featuring 13 tracks of original waltzes, calypso classics and deep-cut jazz standards. Recorded over two days in New York City, From Up Top captures the chemistry and whimsical arrangement of a Bailsmen concert while at the same time meticulously staying true to a classic, vintage studio work. The Bailsmen are touring the Southeast and Florida this winter in support of From Up Top and are thrilled to be making a stop in Asheville. If you are a musician (everyone welcome, from beginners to professionals), join the house band 2nd set on stage to play some of the most swingin' dance tunes from history. MARCH CLASS SERIES 7:30 pm INTRO TO 8-COUNT w/Deb & Jessica (Class 1 of 4) Learn the foundations of the 8 count Lindy Hop, the high energy dance from Harlem that swept the nation and then the globe. Starting from the very beginning, breaking down the steps and rhythms in easy to understand ways, Deb & Jessica will get ya on the dance floor and having fun in no time. No partner required. ***Please wear comfortable, flat shoes that will stay on your feet (keds, converse, tennis shoes) "Core" lessons stress the fundamentals of swing dancing for beginning dancers. Lessons rotate monthly to focus on a different kind of swing dance. Because good fundamentals are hard to develop in one month, we we are offering Core lessons (on the same topic) to help develop the solid foundation you'll need in continuing classes. Core lessons are also great for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to "get back to basics" or learn a different dancing role (lead vs. follow). ************************* 8:30pm DROP-IN "TASTER" LESSON Come and get the feeling of what swing is all about! We will teach you the basics that you'll be able to use on the dance floor right away! You can purchase gift certificates at the door at our weekly dance! They are $40 for a block of 4, and a great way to dive into the fun world of dance.
