Grab your finest disguise and head to the Block for our annual Halloween Dance featuring the Low Down Sires! There will be swingin' music, a great class for beginners, and the final class in our month-long intermediate Swingout series. Stay late for our post-band blues DJ. Plus the venue is not only gorgeous, but they have a fabulous bar! Consistently hailed as one of the most popular dance bands in the region, the Sires have had the pleasure of performing at events all over the eastern US, in addition to their regular circuit of local swing dances, club appearances, and private parties. Dedicated to the lost sounds of the earliest roots of jazz, and inspired by the compositions and arrangements of King Oliver, Kid Ory, Jelly Roll Morton and other giants from the storied origins of the art form, their authentic sound transports listeners to the streets of Old New Orleans and the barrelhouses of early 20th century Mississippi river towns. Their hot swingin' style is a surefire hit with audiences everywhere, from concert halls, bars and back-porches, to swing dances and street corners. BLUES Band finished and you're not done dancing? You're in luck... stick around for our blues after party! Continue dancing to DJ'd music until the bar kicks us out. $2 suggested donation for those coming just in time for the blues. CLASSES 7pm: Intermediate Class Series: Stellar Swingouts! *Month of October (5 weeks) - Must commit to and pay for full series - Advance signup recommended! In this 5-week series, we will break down the most classic lindy hop move- the swingout! Learn the momentum, footwork, frame, and timing to execute this exciting step. $50 non-members Swing Asheville $40 members Swing Asheville $5 discount with a pre-paid signup ($45 non-members/$35 members). What a steal! *PREREQUISITE* must be comfortable with basic 8 count lindy step (rock step triple step, step step triple step) We'll also offer an Intermediate Class Series in November - stay tuned! ******************* 8 pm: Intro to Partner Charleston We are excited to be teaching an intro to partner Charleston! This fun style of dance is especially suited to dancing to faster tempos. We'll cover the basics and a couple of variations. 1930's Charleston is a great addition to your swing dance repertoire, and pairs well with Lindy and Balboa. No partner necessary. Come dance with us! "Core" lessons stress the fundamentals of swing dancing for beginning dancers. Lessons rotate monthly to focus on a different kind of swing dance (6 Count Lindy, 8 Count Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, etc.). Because good fundamentals are hard to develop in one month, we recommend repeating Core lessons (on the same topic) to help develop the solid foundation you'll need in continuing classes. Core lessons are also great for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to "get back to basics" or learn a different dancing role (lead vs. follow). ************************* GIFT CERTIFICATES Do you want to buy a gift certificate for our classes as a gift, or to pre-pay for a block of classes for yourself?
