Swing DJ Relay - The Ladies Who Swing The Band

The Swing Era wouldn't have swung half as hard without the work of incredible women arrangers, composers, instrumentalists, vocalists and bandleaders. This month we want to honour their legacy with our Spotlight DJ guest, Boston-based Elizabeth Glavin - and we invite you all to share your jazz gems. This free monthly event connects newer and veteran DJs over our appreciation for jazz music and history. Step into the virtual DJ booth, share your favourite swing songs and come nerd out with our international DJ community. Newer DJs: we would love to hear the tunes that make you want to dance! Our first 'thread the needle' set is your chance to play musical tag and help us build a unique collaborative playlist. Then we'll turn it over to Elizabeth who will play a short themed set that will highlight the work of women in jazz. This is always a great opportunity to discover new artists or dig into the history of swing music. And finally we'll continue from where our Spotlight DJ left off and open the floor to you again so we can build a second playlist together based on this month's theme. Brush up on your Mary Lou, explore those lesser-known vocalists, or tell us about your favourite badass women jazz pioneers who challenged the cultural expectations of the time.
