About this Event
Here we go again! Long Swing dance night is coming on the last Friday of May.
Jazz Cannibals and Friction Swing bands, as well as great DJs will bring the music to the house and keep us dancing for the night. We promise you an amazing night!
We start at 7pm with a taster class of Collegiate Shag, a dance that makes your feet grooving and your heart smiling!. All levels are very welcome! Teachers: Caroline Moinel and Alessandro Ituarte.
The evening is dedicated to our Lindy Hop father, Frankie Manning who’s birthday is on May the 26th. There isn't a better example than Frankie Manning (original Lindy Hopper and the Kind of Swing!) to
remind us of the joy and fun we have dancing! His birthday is celebrated all over the World, and of course our city couldn’t be missing of this great celebration!

COLLEGIATE SHAG
together with the Lindy Hop and Balboa belongs to the swing family of American vernacular dances that arose in the 1920s and 30s. From the other swing dances, Collegiate Shag notably differs in the high hands, close position, hops, kicks and footwork. It is usually danced to faster and very fast-paced music. Shag was the hottest dance among the college kids in the 30s, that’s why some styles were called “Collegiate Shag”.
The origins of the dance are not clear enough, almost no surviving archival material. It seems that Collegiate Shag was one of those suddenly appeared and as quickly disappeared things. In the mid 30s American dancer Arthur Murray tried to trace the footprints and standardize the dance. This is he best-known preserved Collegiate Shag version.
