About the event
Similar to previous years, this year will be topic based. This means you select the workshops that are interesting to you, and we will do our best to give you your most preferred selections. This year, we will be offering Collegiate Shag workshops in addition to LindyHop ones.
You get four workshops over the weekend with each workshop taking half a day. Workshops take place during the day on Saturday and Sunday. There will be evening dance on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The band (Shirt Tail Stompers) plays on Friday and Saturday.
How it works
In short, you will pay first, then we will send you forms to complete the topic selection later. In details:
- You/Your partner/Your group leader will purchase a ticket first.
- We will send you a Google Form to fill out your desired topics.
- You will be assigned workshops based on your preference in March.
- You will receive a link to look up your schedule at end of March.
FAQ
Q: Can partners/group members submit topics independently?
A: Yes!
Q: Can I change my preferences later?
A: Yes, but it will be subjected to availability.
Q: How do we know we get our preferences?
A: We will send you e-mails of your timetable after March.
Q: I didn't get my desired topics last year. Will it be the same this year?
A: Normally, we are able to give you your first two preferences. After that, we are limited to class size (safety) and role balancing. So we ask you to give us six preferences.

Topics
This year, you can select from a variety of topics below:
Collegiate Shag - Core-Vocab (Newbie)
This is another form of Swing Dance suitable for faster music.
A beginners toolkit for social dancing Collegiate Shag! All the building blocks that we’ll need to get comfortable on the social floor, as well as a couple of common flashy moves to have some fun with! Beginners friendly.
Collegiate Shag - Single Shag (Experienced)
You must already know Collegiate Shag!
This class will introduce us to Single Shag, one of the most historically popular step patterns, and a fun 8-count alternative to the more (contemporarily) common Double Shag! Not for complete beginners.
Collegiate Shag - Momentum (Experienced)
You must already know Collegiate Shag!
Wheee! Wooo! Zooom! These are the sounds of the people taking this class! Momentum capturing moves and combos that keep you flowing through your Collegiate Shag dancing! Suitable for beginners.
LindyHop - Everyone Leads Everyone Follows
We will look at some LindyHop figures in both roles to understand both the lead and follow aspects equally. This is not a Switching class. However, if you want to do Switching in the future, or if you want to start learning the other role, this is a good place to start. Suitable for beginners.
LindyHop - Equal Voices
Become a better conversationalist in our dance. While staying in our primary role, we will learn how to initiate as a follower and how to respond as a leader. It will help if you read that last sentence out loud. 😉 Suitable for beginners.
LindyHop - Flash & Trash
Learn some stylish moves and sequences to spice up our repertoire. The workshop will be taught at a fast pace, and needs a good understanding of connection and an ability to cope with changing footwork.
LindyHop - Musicality & Individual Expression
Taught 50/50 by Shirt Tail Stompers and our teachers, we will learn about improvisation, individual expression and how to better interact with the music. We will also look at what to do when we are not connected with our partner. Beginners friendly.
LindyHop - Swingout Variations
We will first review how to do proper Swingouts before moving on to more fancy variations. You must already know how to do Swingouts, as THIS IS A REQUIREMENT!
LindyHop - Tandem
A classic Charleston figure, this involves both dancers dancing closely behind/in front of one another. We will look at some cool tricks that we can do while in Tandem in addition to ways of getting in and out of it. Suitable for beginners.
