SwingOut! West Coast Swing

Come dance with us at SwingOut! -West Coast Swing on Saturday, May 17th at Lake Merritt Center. Lessons from 7pm to 8pm (intermediate and beginning); Dance from 8pm to 11pm. $15 for Lesson and Dance; $10 for Dance Only. Beginners are welcome. Masks optional. (( ANNOUNCEMENT )) SwingOut is evolving. Starting in June, our dance will be called SwingOut House Party and Ruben Sison will be the lead organizer. We’ll continue to hold our dance on the third Saturday of most months, with lessons at 7 and open dancing at 8. We started SwingOut in 2012 with the goal of providing a safe place for dancers to dance West Coast Swing in any role they want, with any partner they want. Back then, it was still rare to see anything other than men leaders and women followers. We are grateful that here in the Bay Area the WCS culture has changed and it’s more typical to see dancers breaking out of traditional roles. Ruben has been producing Westie House Party for the last year or so. Each dance features a roster of guest DJs. We decided to join forces (and brands), resulting in SwingOut House Party. We’ll continue Ruben’s House Party tradition of featuring a variety of WCS DJs. We love the community orientation. May will be the last SwingOut with the format we’ve been using for the past 13 years. So, come say good-bye (kinda sorta) and celebrate our roots and how far we’ve come. SwingOut House Party launches in June with free admission for all. We’ll be announcing our DJ line up shortly.
