Ragga & Afro was the popular dance genre at the time, and had a huge influence on him and his peers. They naturally expressed themselves through the raw lyrics and the strong Afro/Jamaican beat. A dance movement evolved and they lived for the quarterly high school dance competitions which brought young dancers from all over town to showcase their styles. He was always dancing and rehearsing outside in the mud and dust with my younger brother Fassy; these are some of my fondest childhood memories. Ragga was a way of expressing their way of life, the struggle the pain, the hardship of living in low social economic suburbia. It drew hundreds of young people from all over the region, both schooled and un-schooled youth, everyone came and expressed their street style on stage at Rokana Primary School, in Kitwe. In 2004, social media helped him discover the world of Dancehall & Afro. He realised that Jamaican Ragga music belongs to a massive dance community called Dancehall, that it is in fact a culture of its own that reaches far deeper and further than dance itself. All the pieces came together; He was familiar with the music and the artists of the genre, but only just beginning to explore the magic and raw talent of the Jamaican dancers and Dancehall culture that was rapidly becoming a worldwide dance community. ⭐️ Ama Ryllis - is a French dancer living in Sydney since 2014. She dances, performs and teaches many different African & Caribbean styles (afro fusion, dancehall, ndombolo, soca, zouk, kizomba, semba, sega, afro house, samba...). Her teaching journey started with Afro fusion & Dancehall workshops 4 years ago and she hasn't looked back! Ama has performed and worked with several Sydney based groups such as Afrodiziac, 101 DollsQuadron, Goodaz Collective, SambaseIre, Rhythm Seekers and Free It Up. From cultural festivals to concerts and private functions in Sydney and Australia she got the opportunity to showcase her passion as a dancer and choreographer at various events including Newtown Festival, Africultures, Awake Festival, Sydney International Afro Kizomba Festival, Reggae Carnival Market, Sounds of Afrobeats, Dutty Dancin, Konshens, Beanie Man and Sister Nancy concerts among others..You will always find Ama Ryllis busting some moves on the dancefloor of any Afro Caribbean party, so make sure you get to jam with her!
