About this Event

Sunday 26th May is World Lindy Hop Day and Sydney lindy hoppers are invited to take part in a global shim sham, as organised by the Frankie Manning Foundation. We're going to celebrate our love of swing dance by the beautiful Sydney Harbour. Afterwards, everyone is welcome to head up to the North Sydney Community Centre for Sunday Swings at 2pm. (There's going to be a special performance there too!) Video of the Sydney Shim Sham will be uploaded publicly for all to enjoy. Need to learn the shim sham or brush up on the steps? Watch out for classes organised by a couple of schools - I'll post details here as they arise. WHERE? On the harbour edge near Luna Park, just on the Eastern side of the Harbour Bridge. See map photo in posts. WHEN? Sunday 26 May, meet 12:15pm, dancing at about 12:30 or 12:45pm. We may need to do a couple of runs. We'll aim to be all done by 1pm. HOW TO GET THERE? Train to Milsons Point Station and walk down Alfred Street, ferry to Milsons Point Wharf, or drive and park (leave plenty of time - it's a difficult area for parking). WHAT TO WEAR? Whatever you like! Wear shoes suitable for dancing on concrete. WHO IS THIS FOR? Any Sydney lindy hopper wanting to celebrate the dance we love. This is a community event. I hope all swing dance schools will be represented! While there is no code of conduct, I expect all dancers attending to be respectful of one another.
