For our next Tango Café on 21st January we are very lucky to have the very talented Mariano Laplume teach a tango musicality workshop "How to be playful with the Tango beat" You'll make your dance more interesting and fun by exploring different aspects of tango beat: speed, regularity, slowing down/speeding up & pauses. Mariano will explain by playing live and with examples of the great orchestras how to listen the different aspects of Tango beat and how to dance to them! Please note that this is not a talk but a practical workshop. --- Programme Tango musicality workshop with Mariano Laplume 3-4:15 pm, £15, including entry to the milonga. Milonga 4:15-8:15 pm, DJ Katerina, £12. ---- Food and drink The cafe is open on Saturdays until 5pm and this Saturday they are running a promotion with free coffee, tea and soft drinks! --- Travel Clapham Junction is an easy 5-minute walk away. Take the St John’s Hill exit. Lots of bus routes too, including some stopping outside the venue. If you drive, the venue is outside the congestion charge zone and outside ULEZ (but the ULEZ starts immediately north of it so take care). Parking is pay and display until 5:30 and free afterwards (or free all day if you are prepared to walk 10 mins to the adjacent parking zones - please see separate pinned post on parking with an annotated map). --- About Mariano Laplume Professional Tango Musician & Dancer Prior to being a professional tango dancer, Mariano had a very exciting and successful career as a musician. He had the talent and good fortune to play first as a violist then violinist in: - The Academic Orchestra of Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires (Classical Music) - Orchestra Tipica Imperial (Tango) - Orchestra of Tango Styles of the National Academy of Tango - after which he cofounded and became very well know as the energetic violinist of the internationally renowned and much loved SEXTETO MILONGUERO. During his career as a Tango Musician, Mariano has played in more than 60 milongas, festivals & concerts in Buenos Aires/Argentina and over 100 more around the world. As a dancer he and his former partner, Maral Kojayan, set up a tango school and milonga(Tango Garden) in London, UK from 2012. They then moved to Rotterdam, NL and are teaching @ Cuartito Azul, (Rotterdam,NL) and Check2Cheek(Amersfoort,NL) while working as Dj and spreading his love of tango music with his Music Tango Seminars in diferent cities of Europe. Mariano is also a fully qualified Alexander Technique Teacher, he trained between 2013-15 at the Constructive Teaching Centre in London (the oldest and most prestigious Alexander Technique school worldwide) Hope the above is useful and we really look forward to welcoming you!
