About this Event

'Tango-on-socks' dance party interlaced with a Contact-Improvisation Jam : 15 minutes tango / 15 minutes contact / 15 minutes tango / 15 minutes contact / … / etc. changing the light will define the switch each time. We will give a little tango introduction for the contact dancers, and after a little contact introduction warm-up for the tango dancers, then the party starts. Please check the concept and schedule down bellow. WARNING : By coming you agree to follow those IMPORTANT NOTES about the house : This free party is happening in one of the most beautiful altbau of Berlin of my dear friend Davide who is welcoming all of us in his amazing space. But there are issues with neighbors, so: - Please be really silent in the stairs. - Inside the flat, it is not a loud party, so voices levels will stay rather low and we can focus better on the dance ;-) Please don't violently jump/fall awkwardly on the floor to not make vibrate the building. - It is forbidden to smoke in the flat, in the stairs, and also anywhere in front of the building. (there is a balcony for your friend who really cannot avoid a cigarette, but only for one or two person at a time please) - There is a maximum amount of people, so please let us know if you join, so we know how many to expect and to try not to refuse people. Well the past experiments were quite successful so let’s do it again. CONCEPT : The party interlace Tango dancing and Contact Improvisation dancing with a little bit of live music and a few other experiments. We will dance in one of the most beautiful spaces of Berlin: Salon Incanto is a beautiful Berliner Altbau thats special lighting and interior creates the most ideal warmth and creative atmosphere for this experiment. We will start with a little warm-up of Contact Improvisation for Tango dancers and a basic class of Tango for Contact dancers (but of course you can also come to enjoy the party dancing only one of the 2 dances if you prefer, you will nevertheless get the contact energy in your tango, or vice-versa). (And of course you can always improvise any other dance you prefer if you feel) Tango and Contact Improvisation are extremely different on the first sight. But there are surprisingly many similarities and uniting these two can set free a unique energy that influences both of them in the most liberating and beautiful way. So, you could say that they're almost like wine and cheese: Mixed together the result would create a horrible paste, but tasting a little bit of this and then a little bit of the other will be a wonderful experience. SCHEDULE : 19:30 - Accelerated Tango class for the Contact dancers*** Jasminka and me will lead you guys in the most thriving and fun tango introduction! 20:10 - Accelerated Contact class for the Tango dancers*** Contact dancers really welcome to help us in this. :-) 20:40 - Party starts: Here is how it works: 15 minutes Tango, 15 minutes Contact, 15 minutes Tango, 15 minutes Contact... etc. Thus the atmosphere of the party will switch in regular intervals. (of course this can be adapted to the participants' mood and the overall atmosphere) During the dance party, music surprises : Little set of acoustic live music... - We would ask you to consider coming at the rather beginning of the party, if you can, (around 20:30/21:00 if you don't join the warm-ups), because, as this is an experiment, wide participation at the beginning can make it work more smoothly and thus guarantee an unforgettable experience for all of us. - Donation box for musicians. You can bring your own drinks. *** We give those little classes for free before the party starts. Experienced Tango dancers, especially leaders, are warmly invited to join the little tango class to help contact dancers learning Tango (if we have enough leaders we'll teach most of the contact dancers to follow which will guarantee a super fast learning!) ...Afterwards, the Contact dancers are also welcome to help Tango dancers learning some Contact. If you don't know none of these dances you are welcome to jump into the cold water this wednesday: Come to both classes! For the newbies: Contact Improvisation is a dance invented by Steve Paxton in the 60s. It is one of the best-known forms of postmodern dance, and through the years it became a social dance, Berlin being one of its biggest scenes in the world, with "social jams” almost every evening of the week. Here you can see a video I made, in which a good student of mine is dancing (she’s a complete beginner!): https://www.facebook.com/orgmus/videos/919979518051884/ and here is a more technical video explaining Contact with nice dancers: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jcrbIdY3HZc Tango is a dance born at the Rio de la Plata as a mix of Afro-american and European dances around 1900. Some Tango styles can be tonic, and other ones, less famous, can show much more of an African influence. (Here is a clip, still in project, that I produced together with a friend in Misk: https://www.facebook.com/alexbartprofile/videos/1442079902508507/ and see alexbart.com ) Tango and Contact dances are the most improvised social dances. They are the only 2 social partner dances that don't have any ‘pattern' to follow, but are rather 100% spontaneously improvised at any time. The Place: SALON INCANTO, the most beautiful ‘Altbau’ in Berlin, is not only a holy and bohemian venue, but as well the home of my good friend Davide. Therefore, please behave particularly careful and respectful at this event. Please take your shoes*** off IMMEDIATELY at the entrance, dont slam doors or windows, no smoking in the flat nor in the stairs and street entrance. Warschauer Strasse 78, ring 8, 1st Floor left. (in case of problem my phone 01715107489) *** It is possible to dance with tango shoes if you wish (only if they are really clean and only used on clean dance floors), but in that case we ask you to be very careful with the feet of the other participants who dance barefoot. Dancing in socks or barefoot is widely encouraged! ;-) See you on Thursday! Warm Hugs ♥ Alexandre
