This FRIDAY, we have a very special guest & co-host from Buenos Aires—✨Maximiliano Cristiani✨ The fact that he’s the 2013 World Tango Salon Champion is just trivia compared to his depth as a teacher and artist—far beyond dance styles. He’s been invited to Bergen seven times. As organisers, you only do that if the teacher is truly awesome and the students always want more. He’s also the kind of competition jury who gives sharp, thorough feedback—if you ask for it. That’s how Maximiliano met Camelia in London in 2023. Now, they’re joining forces to share their tango with the community in Stockholm, over the Easter break. Just like the last time, there are two Parts to the Party. Tango House Party started as a TGIF gathering on Fridays, organised by a group of students at the Tango Academy Stockholm in 2021. COVID was still a thing; there were no “milongas” or “practicas” for us to go to. We were a bunch of wild beginners who had heard that tango was meant to be a social thing—so we booked the studio and invited people to come join us. This is the origin of the relationship between the two main organisers (a long-standing teacher-student-ship), and why we still call them “parties.” We want to remember the innocence of that word—party—and let things grow organically, true to our hearts’ desires. The willingness to, through tango, get together and have a good time; to open the doors to anyone and everyone who wants to join; to understand that every city has different people with different needs at different times. There are no rules—only references for us to make something of our own, together. And the faith that everything is going to be just fine, as long as we share the values of respect, honesty, and care.
