If you haven’t heard of him, either you haven’t watched enough films, or you’re a spy from another danceverse. He is recognized as the key figure who helped renew tango’s international popularity, and as one of the pioneers of its modernization—or, as it is sometimes mistakenly called, “new tango”, which we are here to de-mystify. It might feel daunting to see him with Clinton at the White House, on screen with Sally Potter, or going Hollywood with Johnny Depp; or to learn that he has received the American Choreography Award, a Guggenheim scholarship, and a special distinction from the Argentine Society of Authors and Composers (SADAIC)—just to name a few. Yet despite all this, he remains down-to-earth and, above all, Down to Teach. He is genuinely passionate about sharing, inspiring, and being inspired by others. His philosophy is clear: creativity begins with mastery. To break away from patterns, we must first know them inside out. Pablo’s journey has taken him to Mars to study contemporary dance, to Venus to study tango, to Jupiter to study music, and to Pluto to explore the universals and parameters of these art forms—before returning to Earth to ground himself in his own tango. His path is a full-circle journey: breathing influences, synthesising them with his own explorations, finding his unique voice, and ultimately contributing something new and authentic to the art form. In this 9-hour intensive seminar and 3-hour experimental “La Rueda Veron”, we will study the fundamental principles (conceptual) and foundations (practical) that shape the structure and dynamics of tango, as Pablo Verón lives them. This will prepare you to launch or refresh your own journey of interpretation, synthesis, discovery, and original contribution. Pablo can guide and inspire you—but defining your tango? Pablo’s knowledge did not emerge in isolation. He learned directly from authentic milongueros and worked with the great masters of tango’s Golden Age: Petroleo, Juan Carlos Copes, Gloria and Eduardo, Virulazo, Antonio Todaro, Pepito Avellaneda, Mingo Pugliese, among others. Yet he constantly reflects on tango—of today, yesterday, and tomorrow. He shares his personal experience of engaging with this cultural inheritance as a point of departure to develop, transform, and ground himself in his own tango. Through this program, participants will explore not only the traditional roots of tango but also how these foundations continue to inspire new movement, expression, and interpretation in the dance of today. One thing Pablo said particularly resonated with us, and we’d like to share it with you, as a glimpse into the spirit of the intensive weekend ahead: "Throughout my journey in tango, the great maestros I carry within me have always been present. I honor them, cite them, and let their wisdom live in my teaching and dancing. Yet, from the mid-1990s onward, I began to forge my own path, synthesizing their teachings with my own research, exploration, and vision. This process often took me far from their direct influence, allowing me to rediscover them with fresh eyes. Today, while I acknowledge and respect the legacy that shaped me, what predominates in my dance and teaching is my own interpretation—a personal exploration of tango that contributes something new to the art form.
