Carrie Field fell in love with tango in 2004. After much study and many trips to Buenos Aires, she began teaching in Taos, New Mexico in 2009. She then noticed a missing educational experience for tango dancers and investigated how to condition her own and students’ bodies for better access to the dance. This exploration resulted the material of Tango Inform. Carrie has a B.A in dance and a masters in occupational therapy. She is certified in Pilates, yoga, Gyrotonic©, and has more than 30 years of experience teaching these movement modalities. She taught tango as a part of Taos Tango for many years and feels privileged to have taught at many tango festivals in the Southwestern U.S. Carrie has a passion for understanding the moving body and is excited to share with her tango community!
Tango Inform is a collection of exercises designed specifically to prepare the body and enhance performance for dancing tango. The exercises of Tango Inform approach the body from four different areas of training: stretch, strength, release, and motor patterning. The individual exercises included in the approach have roots in varied movement modalities such as yoga, Pilates, Gyrotonic©, and Bartenieff Fundamentals. Kinesthetic and anatomical concepts are explained in friendly language to help students understand movement patterns and theories that can help their dance. The object of Tango Inform is to assist dancers in improving ease of movement, grace and physical confidence while dancing tango.
