Karen began dancing Argentine Tango in 1997 after an extensive history of theatre, gymnastics, and an eclectic mix of dance disciplines. She quickly realized that her love of the dance required a more intense commitment to learning. As a result of working with many very skilled and inspirational teachers over the years, she now greatly values a dance in which the partners coexist in its creation, where the follower's role prioritizes the connection with the leader, but also is active and expresses individual personality and musicality. Being a leader as well as a follower has given Karen a unique and valuable perspective.
Her reputation in both the SE region and wider Argentine Tango community is that of a skilled and engaging partner with well refined technique. Always seeking further education and refinement in the dance, traveling annually or more to Buenos Aires, she works with a variety of skilled practice partners, both in group and private practices, takes both group and private lessons with world renowned teachers and enjoys dancing in the popular milongas in the heart of the Tango world.
She enjoys working with a variety of partners, striving to bring new ideas and creativity to the dance itself, as well as to teach in a way that makes the dance accessible and enjoyable to all who are interested. As the owner of Tangogypsies, Karen is committed to share her passion for the social dance.
Since 2005, she has been teaching a Fundamentals class and hosting a social dance weekly, in Asheville, NC., as well as guest teaching outside of Asheville. She also offers private lessons, intensive courses for further study as well as various performances throughout the year. Bringing in guest instructors from around the world, Karen organizes larger weekend events in Asheville that draw dancers from the SE region and beyond.

Tate Di Chiazza
"When we talk about Tango, we talk about a dance with some technical complexity, a complexity that requires practice, but above all understanding. My teaching focuses on not skipping stages of development. It touches on different aspects relative to the understanding, thus allowing dancers to learn faster and to reach goals in a simple way. I use my 18 years of experience toward an effective, easy and fun way to teach and learn."
The classes will aim to have the dancers understand the subtle technique responsible for the movements (or steps), the connection, and the how to be sensitive to the music.
Tate has studied under Susana Miller, Osvaldo Zotto, Gabriel Angio y Natalia Games, Fabián Salas, Luis Solanas. Assistant choreographer and principal dancer for “ Tanguera,” the internationally touring production, during 2001 - 2005. Regular instructor in the Buenos Aires institutes belonging to Maximilliano Guerra, Susana Miller, and Mora Godoy.
