About this Event

“In a society that worships love, freedom, and beauty, dance is sacred. It is a prayer for the future, a remembrance of the past and a joyful exclamation of thanks for the present.” ~ Amelia Atwater-Rhodes ~ Ishmiel is our Minister of Music this Sunday! He says, “I’ve spent the last month away from Santa Barbara, on a quiet retreat. It is the first time in my 56 years that I allowed myself a month of just being with very little doing. I feel slower, more inward, and more deeply connected to a sense of love and gratitude. I'm inspired to be returning home to our community and I am thankful to have the opportunity to be guiding the music for our next Dance Tribe. It's our Thanksgiving dance. May it bring us a little deeper into our connection with each other and everything we are thankful for. Hope to see you on Sunday!” Minister of Music Ishmiel co-founded Dance Tribe and has been in the ecstatic dance scene for over 20 years. “Music and dance take us right to the present moment,” he says. “Through ecstatic dance we can let go of our worries and express a true and authentic part of ourselves.” He creates sets that invite dancers to move from a deep internal place to a celebratory ecstatic high and finally to a quiet, grounded stillness. He fuses music from around the world.
