About this Event
The Art of the Ecological Body
with Javier Cura
2–4 October 2026
Tsivaras Old School | Apokoronas, Crete
After two deeply inspiring gatherings in Crete, Javier Cura returns this October to continue a restorative exploration of how the body senses, relates and moves—rediscovering its natural intelligence through movement, perception and play.
Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning to continue the exploration, you are warmly invited to spend three days immersed in Javier's unique approach, The Ecological Body.
Blending Contact Improvisation, Tango and Tai Chi, Javier's work invites us to expand our sensory awareness, discover new possibilities of movement, and cultivate a deeper capacity for listening and interacting—with our own bodies, with one another, and with the natural world around us.
Through playful and carefully crafted explorations, we are invited to rediscover the body's natural intelligence: its capacity to move with greater ease, respond rather than control, and find new possibilities through relationship, perception and curiosity. His teaching is playful, profound and deeply human, creating a space where creativity, presence and genuine connection can naturally emerge.
This year's gathering is further enriched by the contribution of Anastasios Sioumalas, whose commitment to cultivating embodied awareness and connection practices in Crete resonates deeply with the intention behind this gathering. A physical educator (MSc), movement practitioner and Nonviolent Communication trainee, Anastasios will offer a session before Saturday's Open Jam, inviting us to slow down, deepen our sensory awareness and become more attentive to the subtle impulses that shape how we move and relate, before entering the shared dance space.
On Saturday evening, we open the space to everyone.
Our Open Jam welcomes both workshop participants and anyone from the wider community who feels called to join us. Before the jam, Anastasios' session will gently prepare the ground for the evening, creating a bridge into the open and exploratory space of the Jam, which will then be accompanied by live improvisations from Echotropi—a project creating musical journeys and interactive experiences rooted in presence, participation and genuine human connection.
The Open Jam is offered on a free contribution basis, and everyone is warmly welcome.
This gathering is an invitation to keep meeting—to cultivate trust, playfulness and familiarity, and to continue growing something that extends far beyond a single weekend.
We believe some things can only grow when we keep meeting.
We would love to have you with us.
