THE DANCING FOREST 4 day movement retreat in Nature towards a mix of Contact Improvisation and tango dance. April 24th - 28th near Arezzo, Toscana, Italy With Javier Cura The rounded hills and trees surrounding the wooden house studio will be the inspiration to embody principles of ecological physical movements. These principles relate to: tension and relaxation, tensegrity structure, dinamic grounding, flow, spirals and the cyclical exchange of centrifugal and centripetal forces. In this respect, we will use images and elements derived from water dynamics commonly found in the practice of many martial arts. We will then playfully apply these principles to movement in general and specifically to the mix of Contact Improvisation and tango . We will also relate these ecological movement principles to our own everyday life deriving from them possibilities of resielence, flexibility and longevity. In this way, our movement, dances, inmersed in nature and shared with others, can derive in a fruitful inner clarity. This workshop is open to people of all levels of experiences interested in movement creation as a path of knowledge, healing, communication and personal enrichment. Workshop structure: The lessons will happen partly in the studio and partly outside in nature. We will work for 2.30/3hrs in the morning and a little bit shorter in the afternoon evening so as to leave sufficient time and energy to dance jam. Leisure time soon after lunch. Arrival on Wednesday 24th April from 16hrs onwards. Lesson from 18 to 20hrs. 25th to 27th: lessons schedule: 10 to 13hrs. Lunch break and then 16.30 to 18.30hrs aprox. Jam dance time from aprox.: 18 /18.30 till 19.30. Sunday 28th: 10-12.30hrs lesson & Goodbye circle, followed by lunch. Food: there will be delicious vegetarian food. Sleeping rooms: for 2 to 4 persons. You can also bring your tent and have a reduction. Cost: Early bird till April 10th: 370€. After: 470€ depending on your economic situation and country. Javier Cura is a teacher, visual artist, theatre director and movement coach who has worked extensively in the realms of movement, dance and theatre. He has been invited to teach and perform at Fabrik Potsdam Tanztage, Goettingen Contact Impro Festival and Phantastango, Farma Dance Theatre Festival and Alchemie Tango in Prague, C.I.R.A in Strasbourg, as well as to CI Festival San Francisco (USA). He has dedicated himself to researches in anthropological and sociological themes to develop projects in social theatre in Italy, Morocco and Germany. He has collaborated on a research on expression in Contact Improvisation at the Berlin Free University. He has worked as movement advisor for Sickle Cell patients in London Royal Hospital. Through a mix of disciplines that nourish movement diversity, body awareness, consensual touch and creativity, he has created The Ecological Body, with the intention to reconnect with oneself, other beings and the Earth, in an emotional, physical and spiritual way. He defines himself as a movement activist.
