The Emerald Interlude

The full shebang of Emerald Swing couldn't happen this year due to problems with venue availability, but we decided we'd like to run something small instead of waiting until 2023! The event has three nights of social dancing, and two afternoons of classes which include two hours of solo jazz and four hours of Lindy Hop. Dublin will be welcoming Stephanie O'Connor and Erol Akinci for the afternoon classes. Erol hails from Turkey and is very taken with hard bop. Steph hails from New Zealand and is currently mesmerised by the dancing of the Harlem chorus line dancers. They met while social dancing and realized their shared interest in the culture and history surrounding jazz. Both strive to participate in this folk art and culture with respect, reverence and humility. Each social night will feature a class suitable for beginners, but the afternoon classes are intended for people who have been attending classes and social dances for a few months. They are planned for mixed level participants, and the teachers will be adjusting the class pacing and content to ensure everyone has an engaged learning experience! The Thursday night is being managed by Pobail Stomp, and Saturday is being handled by FáIlte Hot Club. Everything else is a smorgasbord of enthusiasm and effort from the local teachers, DJs and coordinators.
