About this Event
"Where you are when you don't know where you are is one of the most precious spots offered by improvisation. It is a place from which more directions are possible than anywhere else. I call this place The Gap."
Nancy Stark Smith, 1987
Dear Friends,
On Thursday, 7th May, we will meet to move together in the memory of Nancy Stark Smith - one of the co-founders and great influencers of Contact Improvisation, who passed away last week on May 1st.
Nancy has dedicated her life to research on movement and to spread Contact Improvisation throughout the world. Thanks to her work and many other practitioners, CI has reached India and allowed many of us to experience this form.
The Thursday session on Zoom will aim to explore some of the principles of Contact Improvisation - focusing the attention on the sensation of one’s body, playing with the weight and momentum of movement. Although Contact Improvisation is normally practiced with a partner/group of people, there have been many solo practices developed within the form, which we will explore this Thursday.

About Contact Improvisation
Contact Improvisation is an open-ended exploration of the possibilities of a body moving on its own and in connection with others through physical contact. It is based on focusing on attending to the inner sensations of the body whilst in stillness and movement and remaining present in the decision-making of one’s movement.
