The Karawane Takeover at Findhorn Bay Festival!

The Karawane DJs – Mark Thomson & Ali Aitken – are known for their back-to-back 4-deck journey sets through wild dancefloor salsa, afrobeat, cumbia and joyful music from around the world. Joining them for our Festival Takeover are several artists who will raise the level to a fever pitch and give you an unforgettable experience. Scotland’s own MC Butterscotch will be laying down bars over uptempo Latin and Caribbean beats. Also on the mic is the incredible Meli Perea from Colombia, who has just released her first album "Prisma". Meli is a versatile MC and vocalist who has developed an authentic style through freestyle practice in the streets of Bogotá, a connection to the folklore of the Colombian Caribbean, and playing on stages and in music projects worldwide. From Colombia we also welcome DJ Metralleta, who will be fusing in the salsa and cumbia from the heart to get the party started. **Come along early for a fun and relaxed taster session of salsa dancing with Metralleta (and try the "salsa choke" moves from Colombia too- lots of fun and easy to follow!). No partner needed, and it's FREE for event ticket holders!* From France, we welcome multi-instrumentalist and all-round party-starter, Patrice Komlanz on trumpet and percussion as well as our hugely talented Karawane regulars Carol Scorer, Natalie Wastnidge, Kenny Bongos and Jimmy Djembe. Expect BIG visuals, UNEXPECTED musical twists, HUGE energy and a WELCOMING atmosphere for ALL. Dress for a carnival, dress to dance or dress however you want. Tonight is all about the music! Join us before the takeover for two early evening events: The Message in the Music 4.45pm – 5.30pm A pre-event panel discussion based around music telling a story. Themes may come from the past, but they tell of the future we might all yet share. Salsa Dance – Taster Session 6.30pm – 7.30pm If you are completely new to Salsa or have little experience and want to learn some basic steps you can use on the dancefloor, then this is for you. Relaxed, welcoming and fun, it is led by experienced Salsera and DJ Angela Blackburn (Colombia). Anyone is welcome and no partner is needed! La Boheme will be serving food between 5pm – 8pm.
