ABOUT THE EVENT Alma De Cuba Dance is delighted to present a unique opportunity to spend quality time with “The most charismatic and exciting Latin Dancer of his generation” - Mykel Fonts, choreographer, performer, singer, actor and star of 'Ballando Con les Stellas' and international dance movies 'Street Dance 2' and 'The Latin Dream'. For many years, Maykel has captivated audiences across every continent by his immense talent, mesmeric dance interpretation, spellbinding choreography and breathtaking performances...which by its very definition establishes him as a global celebrity...yet few of us truly understand the man and know his story or the influences and personal experiences that have shaped his life and career...until now Maykel with lead 2 x 90 minute master-classes focused on Afro-Cuban footwork, styling, musicality and dance interpretation. Following the master-classes Maykel has kindly agreed to take time out to share his story and talk about the music and people that have both influenced and inspired him. Using video footage and live percussion, we will learn how his individual style has developed, and through demonstration, how we can improve our own dance interpretation and musicality skills. Following this unique audience, Maykel has accepted our invitation to join us for the party including animation and social dancing until midnight. ABOUT THE VENUE The event will be held at the Albany Suite, Britannia Hotel, Nottingham NG1 6BN. (Telephone 0115 9884071). The hotel is located in the city centre a short walk from the main square and is easily accessible by public transport from Nottingham Railway Station (10 minutes walking distance). Access to the Albany Suite is by private entrance off Mount Street. (Please note that the main hotel entrance is located off St James’s Street). FOOD AND DRINK A cafe facility will be available from registration until 6pm for the sale of tea, coffee, bottled water and light snacks. ABOUT MAYKEL FONTS Maykel Fonts is internationally recognised as one of the most gifted, charismatic and influential Latin dance performers and choreographers of his generation. Having graduated from the Tropicana Dance School in Cuba where he studied ballet, contemporary dance, afro and rumba (Yambú, Guaguancó and Columbia), Maykel has studied with such internationally acclaimed teachers as Virgilio Pitzalis, Marco Macchetti, Steve La Chance, Gus Bemberry, Christopher Uggins, Chacalli and Paganini. As a result of his immense talent, musical interpretation skills and gifted choreography, Maykel is able to blend his principal disciplines of ballet, flamenco, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and Latin-American dance, into fresh, exiting and dynamic routines which never fail to mesmerise his audience, bringing a unique quality and magnetism to every single performance. Maykel has performed in almost every prestigious dance congress in the world, winning first prize in both the Best Choreography and Best Dancer categories in the 2006 World Salsa Congress. He has toured with many famous Cuban bands such as the Buena Vista Social Club and Havana De Primera, choreographing and starring in the latter’s video ‘Al Final de la Vida’. In 2013 Maykel duetted with Maykel Blanco in the hit single, ‘Dale Lo Que Lleva’, and in 2015 he again featured with Maykel Blanco in the video ‘Mira Mia’. He has also choreographed and starred in the movies ‘Street Dance 2’ (2012) and ‘The Latin Dream’ (2017). He is also a regular on Italian TV, having been one of the professional dancers in Bailando Con le Stelles, the Italian equivalent of ‘Dancing with the Stars’, for many years.
