Immerse yourself in a fun-filled preliminary introduction to this amazing African dance form that explores the dynamic interplay between rhythm and movement, allowing one's own individual artistic expression to unfold. Soukous means to shake! Popularized as early as the 1960s in Central and East Africa, it branched out to London and Paris in the 80s. Its origins stem from sounds of the Cuban genre called son. Then, in the 80s, during Kassav era, it transformed and acquired the Antilles zesty fast tempo genre called zouk. To this day, you can hear Soukous blasting in the clubs world-wide. The extraordinaire Mr. Brayo Judah will be teaching the basic principles of this contemporary African dance. In this fun and enjoyable three hour workshop, he will introduce you to the history of Soukous and will guide you through its dance techniques. You will truly be consumed by the soulful and illustrious rhythms of Africa.
