About this Event

Expand your solo vernacular jazz steps knowledge and come out on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to learn the Tranky Doo, a line dance originally choreographed by Frankie Manning, made famous by the documentary "The Spirit Moves" (the source of the event photo), and that is now a part of our modern Lindy Hop community as a line dance often performed at swing dances around the country. Make sure to arrive at least 10 minutes early, I'll be starting promptly at 1 p.m. because we have a lot to fit into those two hours! Cost for the workshop is $15 - please bring cash or you can pay me by PayPal at [email protected] or Venmo @Laura-Windley. We'll be in the Lindy Lab studio at the back of the Triangle Dance Studio complex (look for the orange door frame). This is a refresher class for anyone needing to brush up before the Roaring Raleigh Lawn Party on October 26 - we'll have an open call for people who want to perform the Tranky Doo at this event. This is a great opportunity to ease into jazz dance performing and show the community how we can all randomly break out into choreographed dancing, just like a Hollywood movie. ;) For more reading and videos about the Tranky Doo, visit Bobby White's Swungover blog post on the topic: https://swungover.wordpress.com/2017/09/25/the-mysterious-history-of-the-tranky-doo/ For more information on your instructor, who is less known for teaching and more known for many other roles I play in the Lindy Hop community, visit www.laurawindley.com. See you soon!
