TALK THROUGH* > 6:30-7:00pm UNDERSCORE > 7:00-9:30pm * - mandatory if it’s your first Underscore or if you are still getting acquainted with its format. -- START TIME -- Please arrive by 6:15 to the talk through intro, and by 6:45 if coming to the Underscore only so we can check everyone in and start on time. -- EVENT DESCRIPTION -- What is an Underscore? The Underscore steps beyond our normal way of relating to a contact improvisation jam. We set the container by beginning together with a talk through and staying the duration of the journey. Through a self-guided exploration of embodied states, we reach a place of deep self-connection and attunement to others. We let our creative impulses flow as our playful movement improv weaves a magical tapestry of story, sensation, and connection. After the culmination of a profound group synergy, we return to the stillness within and share our insights and inspirations in a cozy closing circle. Underscore is a 3-hour commitment, a group process. We ask for punctual arrival and staying till the end if possible. Late arrivals will not be admitted. First-timers as well as experienced dancers are all welcome. -- UNDERSCORE FACILITATOR -- For the past 19 years, Brandon (flying in the picture above) has dedicated himself to the practice and study of contact improv. He has worked with world renowned teachers, hosted jams in both Portland and Santa Cruz and has been teaching classes, workshops, and private lessons for the past 10 years. The Underscore has been a profound practice in Brandon's dance and has inspired him to facilitate it regularly in both Santa Cruz and Oakland over the past 5 years. -- LOCATION -- 282 S. High Street, Sebastopol, CA 95472 Entrance on the south side of the building (left when facing it, where the retaining wall is). There is lots of parking available. Arrive a little earlier if this is your first time at this location. -- ENTRANCE FEE -- $20 for the whole night, whether you go to the class and/or jam. -- FINANCIAL ACCESSIBILITY -- A discount of 50% is available for marginalized peoples, such as BIPOC and LGTBQIA+ folx and those who are experiencing financial hardship..... or pay what you can; NOTAFLOF. -- CLOTHING REQUEST -- * Bring 1 or 2 changes of clothes, if you are prone to sweating while dancing. * Wear clothing that will keep your butt, genitals and nipples covered while moving in non-linear and unpredictable ways. Actually, more skin coverage is better for C.I movements. * Do not wear strong fragrances. * Remove all jewelry (including belt buckles). -- SPACE ACCESSIBILITY -- * Anyone under age 18 is asked to attend with a guardian, and/or email us first to discuss. * This venue for March/April is accessible on flat ground, without stairs.
