General The Unity Zouk Cabin is designed for zouk community members over the age of 21. All activities planned and facilitated by the event organizers are voluntary. Community members should use their own judgement in their participation with the event and may remove themselves at any time. Guiding Philosophy The DMV Zouk Cabin Organizer team created this event with several goals in mind. We strive to: Host a safe, intimate, and affordable overnight dance retreat; Foster a sense of community among zouk dancers; Generate conversation on relevant dance community topics; Create an outlet for constructive feedback for zouk community leaders. Eligibility The Unity Zouk Cabin retreat requires that each interested individual fills out an application. Once the application is submitted the organization team looks at all completed submissions. The safety of our attendees is our highest priority, and as such all applications are first evaluated based on a three part rating system that looks at the potential safety risk posed by the applicant: +Green- no knowledge or personal experience of inappropriate or illegal activity by the organizing team (the applicant is accepted and moves on to below criteria) +Yellow- knowledge of concerns or experiences of possible inappropriate behavior, no knowledge or personal experience of illegal activity by the organizing team (more information will be required from the applicant) +Red- knowledge or personal experience of illegal and/or inappropriate behavior by the organizing team (the applicant is denied) Applicants are then chosen to receive ticketing information based on the following: +Amount and quality of information provided on the survey; +Order in which the survey was submitted; +Zouk experience; +Community involvement (i.e.frequency of participation in events). Facility Use We will be using a rented cabin as the event space for the entirety of the retreat. The cabin is shared by all genders for both living and event space. Due to this the entire cabin is deemed a “community space”. No one person or couple may claim a room, section, or part of the cabin. Some participants have purchased the privilege of using a bed and will have one assigned to them prior to the first night of the retreat. Otherwise, floor space in any room (excluding bathrooms, stairs, and hallways) is open for those who purchased floor space to sleep. Reservation Payment and Exchange Policy All participants are required to purchase a ticket before attending the Unity Zouk Cabin. The ticket types are denoted by the Sleeping Arrangement (Shared Bed or Floor Space) and the Dance Role (Lead or Follow) of the community member. No refunds for tickets will be issued. In the event that a community member cannot attend the cabin retreat, they may seek a Ticket Transfer. In order to pursue a Ticket Transfer, a possible transferee must apply and be approved (i.e. matches both the Sleeping Arrangement and Dance Role of the member). Once a transferee has been approved a $20 transfer fee paid to Unity Events is required to change the name on the ticket to the new community member. The fee may be paid by either the original or new member. Unity Events may provide assistance to those seeking a Ticket Transfer by providing names of waitlisted applicants.
