About this Event

Announcing the opening of the second class in the UNSPKN immersion series! Earlier this year I had taken some time away from teaching formal classes to focus instead on working individually with students. When I again felt inspired to provide a formal offering I knew the engagement would be something altogether different, and new. Many times I had heard and felt the frustration of new dancers who had all the drive, but didn’t feel they had a comprehensive path for pursuing growth in Zouk, and NeoZouk in particular. UNSPKN I was the offering I built for them. Since the first course’s launch I have seen the concept proven through the development of an amazing group of students, any of whom can vouch for the value they’ve found in our work. I am now gearing up to bring in a second group of students for UNSPKN II. This will be unlike regular dance class, even unlike dance class as I have offered in the past. The UNSPKN series was designed to be the course that I would have wanted as a student; one in which I can address what I hold as most important in an unapologetic way. Intimacy, deep connection, solid form, creativity, flow, and the internal art of Suwai - we will pursue these things in an environment that is intimate and supportive, one that provides for the reinforcement and personal attention that best support real learning. The group will be limited to allow for the greatest amount of individual attention. All students will work privately with Atoro every 2 weeks (in Zouk there is no substitute for one-on-one work). Class will focus extensively on students’ engagements within their own bodies. All students will be taught from a “dancer-first” perspective - meaning learning the roles of both lead and follow. All of this combines to be a course unlike any I have offered until this year. It represents the best elements of what I have learned in nearly 8 years as a teacher. It will challenge students, but it is when we are challenged that we can truly grow. I am proud and excited to offer this to you. Commitment: 8 weeks beginning October 24th, meeting for 2, 2-hr sessions weekly at Core Dance in Decatur (Tuesdays 6-8 and Sundays 6-8). Cost: $200 per month. I am price-conscious in my offerings and am staunchly opposed to money being a barrier - I have seen dance work such wonders in people’s lives and believe strongly in its being accessible. That said, payment plans will be made available should the up-front cost be difficult. At this price-point all instruction hours, *including private lessons*, are $11/hr. Enrollment: Please contact Atoro either by Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/adrian.atoro.lopez) or Email ([email protected]) to enroll (note that clicking ‘Attending’ is Not tantamount to enrolling). Tuition can be sent via Paypal or Venmo. >>Note: As of the time of posting there are *10* remaining openings in the course. Hug and Hongi, -Atoro
