Untold Stories Project: community festival- Contra Dancing!

*****Billy Fischer & the Contra Banditos are coming to Untold Stories Project! Move out those stories to make room for new ones that are empowering, light, fun, and fancy! **** If you have never tried Contra Dancing, you are in for a wondering evening as the music is superb & the caller Billy is AMAZING! Be prepared, as we may need to where our finest slippers instead of shoes that may scuff up the floor. Also, bring a dish to share as we may get hungry in the dance. Please try if you can to bring a few dollars- $15 to donate to the caller and band- if you cannot, please come anyway! The more the merrier! Thur-January 9th 6:00- Welcome Reception 630- Rhythms of Life, by Craig Norton is a feature length documentary about the community drumming movement and how rhythm affects us. The film features inspiration from internationally recognized drum circle leaders, music therapists, professional musicians and lots of people who love to drum. With an emphasis on the wellness aspects of music, there are drummers talking about their healing journeys, playing with cancer, Parkinson's, depression and other challenges. Following the film will be a Director's Talk and drum circle to give everyone a chance to experience what they viewed in the film. Also, it’s made to be fun and self-run with me. 2:00 Sacred Relating: How to Cultivate a Sacred Relationship with Emotions, bu Forest Sunshine Who feels? The mind cannot feel. Emotions are meant to be felt. Learn to get in touch with the part of you that feels. In total there are five pure emotions, from which dozens of artificial emotions are manufactured under the direction of the mind. Emotions are meant to be felt and experienced. It is important to know there is a difference between pure emotion arising out of presence and stored emotion. Stored emotions are the result of unprocessed or incompletely felt emotion from the past. Pure emotion happens naturally. In this workshop, we learn the value of feeling emotions in a sacred way. There will be an experiential practice where people will learn how to feel emotion in the body. 4:00 ART-upuncture: Using Acupuncture and Artmaking to connect with your body's True Story, by Ginger Harris What does your body wish your mind knew?!? Come find out as Ginger guides participants through checking in with your body, group acupuncture, and expressing your discoveries through visual art in a process intended to facilitate a greater sense of wholeness and integrity. Please dress comfortably and be prepared to sit approximately 30 minutes with needles in. Ginger aims to address mind, body, and/or spirit-level issues to achieve increased alignment with nature, reduction in symptoms, and greater ease in being! 6:00 PM Jill/ interactive music Jill Friedman (aka Jill Free) has brought her smooth, and versatile voice to rousing performances Jill has traveled with her music to West Africa, Mexico,Jamaica, and all over the US, bringing the messages of love, peace and justice in an eclectic style. The audience experience will bring folks together, singing and dancing! Her newest project, WHISH! Has been a long time coming. WHISH! Is an eclectic band of joyous musicians, who sing and play to bring the community together through an interactive musical experiences! 7:00 Kirtan w/ Kalidasa Joseph Getter, Gary Jacob, & guests 8:00 Planet Xoxo, 8:45 EKKG, 9:30 Someone You Can X-Ray, 10 Shutdown Sunday, January 12th @ Art Space Doors will open at 10:30 am. And we will begin promptly at 11 am. Please arrive before 11 am to get settled in. Five storytellers will sit in a great circle with community/story-keepers to share their experiences which might be about skeletons in the closet, stories that you might have or are currently working of releasing the shame from, and so forth in a supportive and loving atmosphere. Through connecting with the audience, it's hoped that our storytellers and community will find their own paths towards growth and healing. 430pm We will end the festival with a Contra Dance with dance caller Billy Fischer and the live band the Contra Banditos!
