We believe the different dances and teachers allow you to explore your musicality and your own dance styling. Those that have attended our events have experienced and learnt some kuduro, afro house/beats, Semba, funana, kizomba and urban kiz so far. Our next event Urban Kiz Monday will have 4 teachers sharing their knowledge and personal style for you to experience. URBAN KIZ DANCE : Urban Kiz, is a dance derived from Kizomba fused with other dance styles. It is danced mostly to non Kizomba music. The music for Urban Kiz is more varied from electronic to classical to pop songs but the main aspect is that there is a varying beat or vocal within the music with which to dance/ play with. Within this group each teacher has their own style which can include elements of tango, hip hop, bachata and even some zouk. Regardless of the style of Urban Kiz, or whether its danced in an open or closed hold; playing with direction and tempo/speed is a key part of this style, mixed in with tricks, blocks and turns. Styling is also key to making the dance your own and there has been some body isolations and body rolls being introduced for the ladies and fancy footwork for the guys. Despite how it might sometimes look, good dancers execute the dance smoothly and accurately making it feel very connected whether it is a slow dance or a fast paced trick and turn filled dance. It requires strong leading and following skills and familiarity and connection to the music to be able to pull all the components together. But when it does come together it is magic. This dance is still new in the uk and whist we have some good dancers here maybe not everyone has had a good experience, but that is just part of the learning curve not the characteristics of the dance.
