Sam I Am Montolla Cat's Corner a créé un nouvel événement en 2019 pour mettre en œuvre certains éléments clés de notre vision pour la communauté de danse. En tant qu'hôtes dans la culture, notre intention est de recentrer l'africanité des danses jazz en invitant des artistes qui incarnent ses valeurs originelles. Le jazz est revisité à partir d'un contexte culturel plus large, d’expériences vécues multiples, d’une mémoire culturelle profonde. Qu'est-ce que le jazz dans son africanité, dans son contexte transgénérationnel et diasporique ? Et qui sommes-nous dans cet espace ? Le festival vise à créer une expérience immersive pour les participants et à donner un sens nouveau à notre expérience collective. En 2024, nous accueillerons des artistes qui ont déjà partagé l'espace avec nous, afin d'approfondir notre apprentissage avec eux : Le Lord of Swing Chester A. Whitmore, la directrice primée de Holla Jazz Natasha Powell et l’artiste Sarah Elola, artiste en danse et chorégraphe soliste en danse africaine contemporaine. Bien entendu, on vous y attend ! Sam I Am Montolla Cat’s Corner has built a new event in 2019 to put into action some key elements of our vision for our dance community. As guests in the culture, our intention is to re-center the Africanity of Jazz dance by inviting artists who embody its original values. Jazz is revisited from a broader cultural context, from multiple lived experiences, from its deep cultural memory. What is jazz in its blackness, its transgenerational & diasporic context? And who are we within this space? The festival aims at immersing the participants in the form and opening a whole new meaning to our collective experience. In 2024, we will welcome back artists who’ve already shared space with us, so we can deepen our learning with them: The Lord of Swing himself, Chester A. Whitmore, Award winning Holla Jazz director Natasha Powell and Sarah Elola, dance artist and solo choreographer in contemporary African dance. Obviously, we’ll be expecting you! Mark your calendar!
