VOCAB DANCE COMPANY & FRIENDS INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS (Edition 5) Alesandra Seutin/Vocab Dance Company (VDC) bring to you another eclectic day of dance with the support of Akomaasa. VDC & Friends is 1 day of intensive dance classes, with a line-up of teachers who will give you a day worth dancing for! A fun, exhilarating and full on day of living motion! You will receive a unique opportunity to dance with artists who have worked with Vocab Dance Company, Akram Khan, Bill T. Jones, Germaine Acogny, Rafael Bonachela, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Gregory Maqoma to name a few. TEACHERS Alesandra Seutin (Vocab Dance) - Acogny Technique/African Contemporary with live drummer Conceived by Germaine Acogny, “the mother of African contemporary dance”, the Acogny technique is the only codified and recognised contemporary dance technique created in Africa. “The body, the timing, the inner and external rhythm. The freedom of the body through discipline - that’s Germaine Acogny’s Technique” The Acogny technique is a African Contemporary dance technique, a synthesis of traditional African dance (specially Senegal and Benin) and Western dance techniques (classical ballet, release- and Graham technique). Vocab Dance founder Alesandra Seutin add to it, her essence, power, grounding and infectious energy. This workshop will devellop dancers fluidity, power, connection with self and others, musicality, dynamics, grace and placement within their own bodies. Alesandra is the first and only UK based dancer to have obtained the diploma in Acogny technique by Germaine Acogny, at the École des Sables, Senegal. The significant factors for the workshop is to develop the dancers creative mind, drive from passion, determination, strength, musicality and most importantly an intention/honesty in whatever choice they make throughout the session. Their style has been inspired and development from working with the likes of Akram Khan (fusion of Kathak and Contemporary Dance), Retina Dance Company (Release and Contact Work), Gregory Maqoma (Afro-Fusion Dance) and Henri Oguike (Classical Contemporary Dance based on Forstyle and Cunningham techniques). Jones musical Fela!, which brings together an eclectic mix of Afro beat, Afro Cuban, West African and Contemporary dance in a fresh and energetic way. Nandi who was a Queen in the Fela! European, US Tours and Broadway, will share her creative knowledge and experience of that choreographic style, and share her own creative expression through mixed movement, rhythm and groove.
