Waltz Café + Beginner Drop-In Class ft. Live Music: Combo du Jour

Waltz Café is our family-friendly, daytime social dance for lovers of timeless music and graceful movement. This Sunday will be a perfect dance for the Moms in your live, with featured Band: Combo du Jour! Jessica Logan and Ryan Hoffman are both experienced musicians who have played nearly every event, venue and haunt in the Pacific Northwest. You name it; they have probably played there! 25 years ago, Jessica and Ryan founded the popular ensemble Zazou after living in France and becoming enamored with Django Reinhard’s Hot Club sound and swing jazz in general. Zazou recorded three albums, originals and well-known standards, and played everywhere all the time! I mean, those guys were busy! It was a whirlwind. Additionally, Ryan spent ten years touring and recording with the popular PNW group Pearl Django, playing with the greats such as Martin Taylor, Bucky Pizzarelli, and a whole lot of other cool cats. Ryan left life on the road to dedicate his time to fatherhood, his career as a music educator and explore new and varied repertoire with his musical (and life) partner, Jessica. In their latest project, Combo Du Jour, they bring their musical experience and passion together to present intricate arrangements of musette waltzes, tangos, choros...and yeah, they still love swing jazz, too. This duo opened the show for this year’s Masquerade back in February. People loved them. Yet for Sunday’s Waltz Café they’re expanding into the quartet version. The Combo’s regulars, guitarists Ryan Hoffman and Jessica Logan, beefed up their sound by adding two of Seattle’s top dance musicians: • Nova Devonie of The Buckaroosters on accordion. • Keith Lowe of The Jukehouse Hounds and Joy Street Orchestra on bass. Expect plenty of swing, waltzes, Latin and more at this most friendly of dances. Come at Noon for a $10 waltz lesson (taught my moi), then dance from 1 o'clock till 3. Take Light Rail’s magic carpet right to the Reverie Ballroom, or park free on the Sunday streets. Dressing up is encouraged, but not required. Let the music carry you across the floor, and the afternoon light in our historic ballrooms brighten your day.
