WCS Workshop Weekend with John Kirkconnell

We are excited to bring John Kirkconnell to Ottawa for the first time! John is a Canadian WCS Champion who has been dancing West Coast Swing for 25 years and has been teaching for 23 in over 21 countries! A two time Classic Division US Open finalist, John prides himself on his sense of dynamic connection and ability to focus on the finer details. Schedule: Saturday: 1:30-3:30pm: How we use the Floor This class will focus on the way we track weight placement in our feet both in our leading and following skills as well as rhythmically. 3:30-4:00pm: Break 4:00-6:00pm: Frame Game In this class, we'll be taking a deep dive into how we connect to our frames - how and where we can access those tools. We will also be taking a closer look at how the posting action relates to our frames. 6:00-8:00pm: DINNER BREAK 8:00-9:00pm: Angles in Partnership 8:45 intro to WCS (taught by Westie Underground) 9:00pm-midnight (or later): Social dance Sunday: Novice + 12:00-2:00pm: Old School & New School Connection This workshop will focus on giving dancers tips on how to create dynamic points of connection through both some basic actions as well as some more in-depth theology. This class will also address some shaping techniques we can utilize to add some flavour.
