Heather Christie is a folk-soul singer, producer, DJ, and the founder of motherhood-focused record label, Möonbabe Records. Her indelible curiosity and independence have led her on a lifelong creative journey exploring the performing arts, dance, and music production. After releasing music through several collaborative projects, she’s harnessed her cumulative talent and DIY spirit under her own name. Raised in Santa Cruz by a family of Grateful Dead lovers, she’s followed the dream of performing since five years old, spending her childhood in classical choir, teen singing competitions, and starring in Broadway musicals. In college, she discovered modern dance and became inspired by the avant-garde choreographer Anna Halprin. When Heather started learning Ableton she saw an opportunity to connect with people through bass and trance energy, unlocking new realms of consciousness and self-identity. Heather has co-founded the music projects Feral Fauna, Silk Drop, Honeywild, and Sirens of Soul, with Feral Fauna’s “Tincture” gaining viral recognition with millions of streams. In 2016, she was on American Idol’s “Hollywood Week” episode as a second-round finalist. Today she’s fascinated by the music of other cultures with her focus on writing, singing, and producing her tribal house tracks—and releasing them on her label. For live shows, she DJs, sings, and dances while her husband accompanies her on world instruments, such as the sintir from Morocco. Her first child, a daughter named Naya, reinforced her belief that there should be a holistic space within the music industry where female music artists and mamas are celebrated and supported. Möonbabe Records is her answer. She leads through empowerment, for herself and other creatrix mothers, and empathetically maneuvers time constraints while honoring the feminine cycles. What’s next? Heather plans on releasing two forthcoming EPs: For My Daughter and For My Brother. The second is about a sibling who died of a heroin overdose exactly two months before her daughter was born: a duality of death and birth. After exploring the healing arts for a lifetime, she radiates positivity. She says, “It’s yet another pursuit. It’s another level of creativity. I believe my greatest work is my life, my whole life. This is just a part of it.” Website: heathercsongs.com Vir Bio: Vir grew up in Venice, California. From an early age, he was exposed to eclectic musical instruments. As a teenager, he explored exotic sounds, particularly those used in ceremonial and trance music. In addition to playing guitar, bass and keyboard, Vir plays world instruments including the Sintir and Guimbri from Morocco, Djeli Ngoni from Mali, Yali Tanbur from Turkey, a self-created camel-skinned instrument called The ‘Arkbass’, and many others. Vir plays these instruments in non-traditional ways through various effects pedals, as well as in funk, hip-hop and electronic music to create distinctive textures and tonalities. Vir is a tone-master, always looking for that hypnotic sound. Vir founded the world music band Hamsa Lila, who has toured through the United States. Hamsa Lila headlined the renowned Fillmore auditorium twice, and received a Bay Area ‘best world music band’ prize in 2004. The album Gathering One went to number 2 in the world music charts. Vir toured and recorded with the Mickey Hart Band (drummer of the Grateful Dead) in 2011. Vir has performed with or opened up for Mickey Hart, Tinariwen, Bombino, Beats Antique, Bassnectar, The String Cheese Incident, Shiva Rea, Yossi Fine (David Bowie), and many others. Vir currently composes, produces, records and tours with Hamsa Lila, House of Hamsa, The Dogon Lights, and his self-titled solo work. Ecstatic Dance: Together, Heather and Vir artfully weave live vocals with invigorating world instrumentation on top of a range of eclectic beats ranging from downtempo tribal house to peak-time tech house, and down into ambient ethereal. They truly take dancers and audience on a journey.
