About this Event

Hey all, We've decided to cancel this workshop for lack of numbers. I'm glad that interest in Lou's work is building, but we're not quite ready for a full weekend workshop. If you'd like to catch her work her next workshop will be a two hour event in Erskinville: https://www.facebook.com/events/1300180848695267 Be well. Who’s teaching? Lou Poletti, a professional contemporary dancer from Sydney with 15 years on stage across 4 continents. What should I bring? * Knee pads (these are essential for beginners!) * Socks (optional) * Towel * Water What will I learn? This class is designed to help you develop awareness of your body in relation to the floor and give you some tools to make floorwork safer, easier and more enjoyable. Exploring your relationship to the floor and your relationship to the space around you will encourage you to be more intentional and present through your movement. Learning to guide and control your movements on the floor will allow for less bumps and bruises, and allow you move more smoothly. Understanding how to fall will help you feel more confident in your movement, knowing that if something unexpected happens, you know how to land safely. Learning a few techniques will give you an starting point to experiment with your own movements in a jam or lead to more clarity through a routine. Why is floorwork important? Floorwork is an integral part of many different movement styles and is the first “dance partner” many people have. Understanding how to move with, into and though the floor will help build a greater understanding of not just your own body, but how to interact with the space around you. The more you understand floorwork and how you interact with the space, the easier it will be to interact with others (for example, in contact improvisation). If you’ve ever been curious to try some floorwork or want to improve your skills, please feel free to join us on the floor!
