About this Event

WEEKLY CLASS WITH KEN & HYDRA Welcome to our new Zouk-Lambada classes and party on Wednesday! After a big demand, we are delighted to start new Zouk classes on Wednesday nights at EXODUS CLUB :) What is lambada zouk? Lambada zouk is a partner dance originating from Brazil. Also known as zouk-lambada, the dance is a descendant of lambada, the music & dance style that swept over the world like a storm in the late 1980's. Brazilian zouk is characterized by the dancers’ undulating bodies and the girls' flowing hair. Depending on the style of Brazilian zouk, you can see a close connection embrace and long graceful steps, strong hip movements, body isolations and upper-body torsions, wild spins and whip-like head movements. While the dance is often called sensual, it is not sexual or erotic. It is danced by people of all ages in night clubs, dance schools and events around the world! Our classes will be run by Mark Miller with our regular teacher Ken who will work along side Gaby and Hydra Info for new attendees: 7pm - Zouk Lambada for beginners. 8pm - Zouk Lambada for beginners/improvers 9pm - Social dancing PRICES? 1 class £8 2 classes £10 Students 1 class - £7 2 classes - £9 Party only - £3 About our Instructors: Ken started out doing Latin dance in 2004, primarily in Salsa and Rueda along with other street Latin and ballroom styles. He became an assistant and then a teacher with K'Motion dance studio in Canberra, Australia. After discovering Zouk Lambada in 2008 it gradually became his preferred style and Ken was part of a small group that introduced Zouk Lambada to Canberra. He has attended multiple Zouk Congresses in Brisbane, Sydney, London, and Amsterdam and trained with Zouk teachers in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. The studio regularly hosted visits from well-known teachers from around the world. Ken helped develop the curriculum for teaching Zouk at four levels from beginners to advanced, helped choreograph and prepare students for several local and national performances, and was a host and DJ for regular social dance nights. Ken taught Zouk in Canberra from 2010 to 2013 when he moved to Scotland for work. After taking time to get settled in Scotland, Ken started to promote Zouk Lambada here and has connected with several others keen to see Zouk develop all across Scotland. Plans are emerging for regular classes in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as Aberdeen. Hydra has been studying Brazilian Zouk for 3 years in Brazil, seeking to deepen her knowledge through regular and private classes, congresses, workshops and researching about partner dance techniques applied to Brazilian Zouk. She participated in many events as Zouk Extreme Congress (Fortaleza, Brazil, 2014), Salto Dance Congress (Fortaleza, Brazil, 2015), Zouk Day (São Paulo, Brazil, 2015), Dutch International Zouk Congress (Breda, Netherlands, 2016), among others, being taught by well-known teachers like Bruno Galhardo, Mafie Zouker, Xandy Liberato, Evelyn Magyari, Dadinho, Arkkanjo, China, Rubia Frutuoso, Ruana Vasquez, etc. She developed her skills as a member of a Zouk study group (Zouk – UFC) in the Federal University of Ceara and also as part of a Brazilian Zouk Company called InDuo, where Zouk advanced dancers and teachers studied the Zouk principles and the overlaps of them with contact and improvisation, contemporary dance, breathing techniques to lead, etc. She also performed routines in dance events in Brazil with the choreographies “An de mo” and “Eixos”, created by Saulo Dias, InDuo director and choreographer. Hydra has experience on teaching Zouk, focusing on comfort and accuracy as a follower or leader.
