About this Event
¡Wepa! presents a night of Jamaican and Brazilian sounds with special guest Brazilian DJ Mano Gil and resident DJ Elixir. This is DJ Mano Gil's first time performing in Ventura County, so it's a huge honor to host him at the world-famous Ojai Deer Lodge!
>>>DJ MANO GIL<<<
Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in the mid 70s, DJ Mano Gil spent a big part of his life being exposed to different types of musical influences. But it was in the mid 90s that he started expanding his musical vocabulary to tendencies that he never imagined existed.
Today, DJ Mano Gil enjoys finding gems from the past in jazz, bossanova, samba, reggae, hip-hop, soul, funk, Afro-beat, salsa, world music in general.
Aside from his regular Latin-inspired event called Sonido Tropical, DJ Mano Gil is known for his innovative BoogieBike project. The Boogie Bike brings music to public spaces in San Luis Obispo, California and surrounding areas on a customized tricycle outfitted with two turntables, a mixer and a speaker. Everything is battery operated which makes this project environmentally conscious. Most of the Boogie Bike gigs are 100% vinyl and offer a variety of music styles.

>>>ELIXIR<<<
Host and resident DJ of ¡Wepa! and Underground Sessions, DJ Elixir has been bringing Afro-Latin vibes to events from LA to Las Vegas and points in between for the past decade. His eclectic DJ sets often incorporate elements of dub, roots and dancehall reggae. But rarely does he ever get to stretch out and indulge his love of old-school reggae—especially female artists such as Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt. You can expect some rare bootlegs, 45s and other vinyl gems as DJ Elixir digs deep into the record crates!
