About this Event
Dear fellow biped, have you noticed the 11-ish-pound thing at the top of your marvelous body?
Pretty cool thing, eh? It’s got features…
Have you noticed how good you’ve gotten at keeping it from bumping into things like, say, the planet?
It’s a thing…
A thing worthy of the attention of a human movement explorer such as yourself, wouldn’t you say?
Speaking of your Mind, have noticed the things it does when you’re dancing Contact Improvisation… How your thoughts and intentions feed your dance or detract from it? How your mood and attention affect your connection and flow? Well, this Thursday we probably won’t talk about that aspect very much, because I think it’ll be more fruitful to use our limited time to focus on our physical heads and necks.
Sure, let’s throw in some good ol’ sensation-based awareness: it’s good stuff. But in the interest of having plenty of time to free jam, let’s keep the class/warm up part brief and focused on our craniums in movement:
Structural understanding, Balance control, Weight distribution, Momentum (!), Safety and growing our edge of comfort with Disorientation and staying Relaxed/Responsive when Off-Center.
Good pithy nuggets/exercises for building CI skills, right?
Heck, let’s make this the first of a series themed on body parts. Some of the most insightful CI classes I’ve had the pleasure of taking were the anatomy-based ones. Great stuff! I’m excited to share.
Let’s do it, ya?!
Let’s put our heads together and see what happens.
