Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers in Movies - Roots & Culture Evening

🌟 Swing Into History & Dance at Happy Feet Studio 🌟 Next Wednesday, on January 29th, we will have a special treat for you: we will start our Midweek Social with a screening of a few dance videos featuring Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers. Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers was a professional performing group of exceptional swing dancers, that was first organized in the late 1920s by Herbert "Whitey" White in the Savoy Ballroom in New York and disbanded in 1942, after its male members were drafted into World War II. Al Minns, Leon James, Frankie Manning, and Norma Miller are the most notable members of the group. However, the team took on many versions and members, with several subgroups over the years. During our screening we will show 4 different dance performances by Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers, featured in these movies back in the 1930s and 1940s: - “A Day at the Races”, 1937 - “Keep Punching”, 1938 (two clips) - “Hellzapoppin’”, 1941 The evening's host, Monica Blair, will also share some insights into the historical and cultural context of Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers' performances. As the screen fades to black, the floor comes alive!
