Al Royale
Al has been playing deep and funky house music since 1993, learning the trade in the thriving club and free party scene of Nottingham in the 90’s. Spending weekends in front of rows of bass bins in muddy fields gave Al Royale his flavour - good-vibe music with bass lines, funk and constant mixing to bring together something more than the sum of the parts. Expect pumping bass lines, a few vocals, tech-funk and acid lines.
Al’s first vinyl release in ’98 on DiY Discs took him to the US and Argentina playing in San Fransisco’s The Top, The End Up, San Jose’s Green Guerrilla Lounge, LA at Earthtones' Label party and a trip to Buenos Aries’, La Marocha. He has also played in Spain, Prague, Germany, France, New Zealand. In the UK Al was a regular at DiY’s Floppy Disco, The Bomb, and also played at Glastonbury, Custard Factory, Bed, The Unit and many free outdoor parties with the DiY and Smokescreen Soundsystem and with his own crew, Giddy Fruit
Now living in Byron Bay, Al has promoted and DJed at his own nights, Double Dipped Disco, Return to Aquarius, Sounds Good Soundsystem Mullumbimby and Coco Republic. His Sounds Good Soundsystem also provides the Funktion One sound for Byronshire’s best party, Nudge Nudge Wink Wink where he DJs regularly. The Sounds Good crew (Al Royale, Mr Ha.Yes. & LIPPO) also run other parties and last year the 2nd Stage at Bohemian Beat Freaks.
Al has played alongside Derrick Carter, Blond:ish, Norman Jay, Inland Knights, Chris Duckenfield, Digs and Woosh, Joshua, Migeul Migs, Karizma to name a few.
Recent gigs have included Lost Paradise festival, Falls festival, Bohemia Beat Freaks festival, Love for Life Festival UK, Gallery Sounds UK, Pollinate Byron Bay, Nudge Nudge Wink Wink, Bizarre Garden Festival, the BLOND:ISH party Byron Bay & Future Faktori. He is resident DJ at sell out gigs, the Sounds Good parties in Mullumbimby and the Coco Republic Byron Bay.
Lippo
A collector and selector of intergalactic beats and treats, DJ Lippo
(Lippo) (aka The Scientist) has been playing to barflies and booty shakers for the last 20 years. Not one to pigeonhole himself musically, Lippo draws on Soul, Jazz, Latin, Hip Hop, Disco, Deep House, Techno, Afro, and everything in between to chemically conjure up the funk and invade the minds, bodies and souls of his listeners.
The Scientist was born in the mid 90s, after a couple of years spent collecting vinyl while fronting an upstart punk band. As The Scientist he played at a number of bars and club nights including all 13 monthly DiscoKitchens, voted best club night of 2000 by 3D World Magazine, and the hugely successful Sussex Lane during the 2000 Olympics.
With a name change and the discovery of Latin, Afro, techno and house, Lippo became a regular on the Sydney bar scene, with lengthy residencies at bars including the Slip Inn, Establishment, Paddington Inn, Melt, Kinselas Middle Bar, Dendy Bar, Hotel CBD, Chicane, The Loft, Beach Rd, Hugos Lounge, Ladylux, and Fringe Bar; and at club nights such as Good Vibrations, Future Classic “Adult Disco”, Sounds on Sunday and The Globe. During this time Lippo supported international acts Norman Jay (MBE), Henrick Schwarz, Serge Santiago, Darshan Jesrani (Metro Area), Rainer Truby, Recloose, Ewan Pearson, Unabombers, Touch Sensitive, Stevie ‘sole’ Middleton, Dynamo Productions, & Mo Horizons.
Lippo has DJed in New York, London, Japan, Thailand and at the Burning Man festival. He has played at a number of large festivals including Good Vibations Festival, PlayGround Weekender and the Barhiti tent at PARKLIFE FESTIVAL. As Dj Chocolate “Greg” Civic, Lippo teamed up with partner in crime Jeff Stroker to create Hott Roxx FM, a tongue in cheek act that warmed up for acts such as De La Soul, Roy Ayres, The Presets and Orbital.
A fresh convert to the North Coast, DJ Lippo has been spreading love on the airways through his show "Under The Mirror Ball” Friday nights on Bay FM 99.9 - Byron Bay Australia. He is also part of the Sounds Good Soundsystem crew, promoting sellout Sounds Good and Coco Republic parties in the Byron Bay area and recently dJed at Bohemian Beat Freaks Festival.
