Workshop - 'AFRO-BUTOH: Blessing Ceremony' with Tebby W.T Ramasike in Paris

Tiré de ma recherche "Le rôle du corps dansant spirituel comme outil de communication dans une société globale", où j'ai etudié comment la danse est une manifestation et une célébration de la ténacité de l'esprit humain, qui ne se laisse pas facilement dissiper ou décourager, qui persiste dans l'existence ou dans une ligne d'action. Ainsi, il n'est pas facile de lâcher prise, d'abandonner, de se séparer des positions et/ou des principes que l'on défend. Pour cette recherche, j'ai choisi de me concentrer sur les principes du Butoh et des danses rituelles africaines (en particulier les danses cérémonielles). Afro-Butoh est un concept qui décrit et se rapporte au travail de Tebby W.T. Ramasike, un chorégraphe, danseur et praticien de Butoh sud-africain. Le butoh est une danse contemporaine expressive et un art de la performance créés par Tatsumi Hijakata, puis développés avec Kazuo Ohno, au Japon dans les années 1950-1960, connu pour sa nature non conventionnelle qui s'adresse à l'ensemble du corps. kLa danse africaine s'efforce d'offrir une grande réconciliation de l'esprit et du corps, de la pensée et de l'instinct, en libérant les gestes et en se laissant aller au rythme.Le voyage spirituel du Butoh et de la danse africaine (Afro-Butoh) est un processus qui nous amène à chercher au plus profond de nous-mêmes, de notre être, à découvrir et à explorer nos qualités latentes dans le développement de notre personnalité - physiquement, intellectuellement, socialement, spirituellement. DESCRIPTION :Méthodologie et objectif : La méthode de travail sera basée sur le concept de l'Afro-Butoh - dans lequel nous travaillerons avec les principes et les éléments du Butoh et des danses rituelles africaines, non pas dans leur forme traditionnelle et ethnique, mais en examinant leur spiritualité, comment leurs parallèles et leurs similitudes s'influencent mutuellement, trouvant ainsi une connexion. Nous nous concentrerons sur les éléments de la vie, les sens corporels et l'énergie de la nature, ce qui nous conduira à une transformation du corps et de l'énergie, à un changement de l'état mental et physique, où l'âme devient une vie intégrée dans l'imagerie de différentes formes et le mouvement devient un langage différent, la peau respirant dans ses voies de passage au fur et à mesure que le voyage spirituel se déroule.Nous travaillerons avec l'improvisation et des structures de mouvement fixes suivant divers thèmes et/ou tâches. Nous commencerons l'atelier par un cercle cérémoniel de bénédiction faisant appel aux esprits d'en bas et d'en haut, invitant et réveillant ensuite le corps de l'intérieur vers l'extérieur, travaillant avec le flux d'énergie interne, le schéma respiratoire, le flux de la respiration facile, la vocalité pour ouvrir les passages internes, se connectant avec l'âme, le battement du cœur, l'esprit, le corps, le sol, l'espace, le temps, le battement de tambour, la musique et le son du silence. "Le rôle du corps se déplace vers l'infini et l'éternité !” La cérémonie de bénédiction se concentre sur l'éveil du corps, invitant les esprits d'en bas et d'en haut, connectant l'énergie intérieure et le moi intérieur, dérivé d'un rituel de la vie quotidienne. BIO : Tebby W.T. RAMASIKE, chorégraphe sud-africain, danseur/interprète, professeur/éducateur de danse, chercheur en danse, praticien du butoh, acteur et activiste culturel, est arrivé en Europe en 1995 après avoir travaillé avec différentes compagnies de théâtre et de danse en Afrique du Sud et à l'étranger,Il a beaucoup voyagé pendant sa période de recherche et de collaboration. Il a travaillé avec des chorégraphes et des professeurs de renommée internationale.Il a été nommé et a remporté un certain nombre de prix prestigieux dans le domaine de la chorégraphie et de la danse. En 1999, il a fondé le TeBogO Dance Ensemble (TBO), rebaptisé TeBogO Dance - TBO, qui, depuis son inauguration, a été invité à se produire et à enseigner en Europe et à l'étranger. Titulaire d'une maîtrise en chorégraphie du programme Dance Unlimited de l'université des arts ArtEZ d'Arnhem, aux Pays-Bas, il a été le premier bénéficiaire de la bourse internationale de chorégraphie du Michel Tesson Performing Arts Trust et, par la suite, de la Creative Arts Foundation. Membre fondateur de Artists Against Apartheid en 1985, il est devenu membre de la World Dance Alliance Europe (WDA) en 2002, membre du Conseil international de la danse (CID) - UNESCO depuis 2004, et membre du Kunstenbond et de Dansondernemers Nederland, respectivement. En 2007, il a été invité à l'université de Bayreuth, en Allemagne, pour l'atelier/symposium "Shifting Centres - artistic positions and recent dynamic in contemporary art with focus on dance, performance and music in Africa", où il a présenté son projet de recherche documenté, "The Spiritual Body as a Tool of Communication in a Global Society" (Le corps spirituel en tant qu'outil de communication dans une société mondiale). En 2013, il a été invité à co-écrire un article sur "Reverie", pour un chapitre "Collaboration", dans le livre "Inventing Futures", publié par ArtEZ Press.Sur le plan chorégraphique, il a constitué un riche répertoire et poursuit ses recherches sur son concept de l'afro-butoh. Actuellement, il travaille sur un projet de collaboration interactif multidisciplinaire à long terme, sous le titre de "THE WALKING THROUGH" : A Journey... Une mémoire... Un souvenir ... La rencontre", dans lequel il invite d'autres artistes à collaborer.Son dernier projet de collaboration Butoh, "The Wreckage Of My Flesh", a été sélectionné pour faire partie des programmes Esch2022 et Kaunas2022, dans le cadre de la Capitale européenne de la culture 2022, en coproduction respectivement avec le Musée national de la résistance et des droits de l'homme à Esch-sur-Alzette, au Luxembourg, et le Ninth Fort Memorial Museum à Kaunas, en Lituanie. 🇬🇧 BUTOH WORKSHOP based on my concept of the AFRO-BUTOH Drawn from my research, “The Role of the Spiritual Dancing Body as a Tool of Communication in a Global Society”, in which I looked in to how dance is a manifestation and celebration of the tenacity of the human spirit, which does not get easily dispelled or discouraged, which is persistent in existence or in a course of action. Whereby, it is not readily to letting go, to giving up, to be separated from the positions and / or principles that one holds. Thus, for this research I chose to focus on the principles of Butoh and African Ritual Dances (particularly ceremonial dances). Afro-Butoh is a concept that describes and relates to the work of Tebby W.T. Ramasike, a South African choreographer, dancer and Butoh practitioner. Butoh is an expressive contemporary dance/performance art created by Tatsumi Hijakata, and then developed together with Kazuo Ohno, in Japan in the 1950-1960s, known for its unconventional nature it addresses to the entire body. African dance strives to provide a great reconciliation of the mind and body, thought and instinct, by freeing the gestures and letting go in the rhythm. The spiritual journey of Butoh and African dance (Afro-Butoh), is a process that leads us to search deep in ourselves, within our being, to discover and explore our latent qualities in the development of our personality - physically, intellectually, socially, spiritually. DESCRIPTION: Methodology & Focus: The working method will be based on the concept of the Afro-Butoh - in which we will be working with the principles and elements of Butoh and African ritual dances, not in their traditional and ethnic form, but looking into their spirituality, how their parallels and similarities differ and influence each other, thus finding a connection. We will be focusing on life's elements, the bodily senses and natures energy, leading us to a transformation of the body and energy, a shift in the mental and physical state, where the soul becomes a life embedded in imagery of different forms and movement becomes a different language, with the skin breathing into its passage ways as the spiritual journey unfolds. We will work with improvisation and set movement structures following various themes and / or tasks. We will begin the workshop with a blessing ceremonial circle appealing to the spirits below and above, subsequently inviting and waking up the body from the inside to the outside, working with internal energy flow, breathing pattern, the flow of easy breathing, vocality to open the internal passages, connecting with the soul, the heart beat, the mind, the body, the ground, space, time, drumbeat, music and the sound of silence. “The role of the body moves to the infinity and eternity!” BLESSING CEREMONY focuses on the awakening of the body, inviting the spirits from below and above, connecting inner energy and inner self, derived from a ritualistic circle from a ceremonial initiation of the South African Divine Healers (Sangomas / the Shaman). The process of the divine act of continuous shaking, leads to a transformative journey of the spirit, body, energy and emotional landscape. **NOTE: The workshop will be conducted in English, without immediate translation. Possibly some statements will be translated. BIOGRAPHY: Tebby W.T. RAMASIKE, a South African choreographer, dancer/performer, dance teacher/educator, researcher in dance, Butoh practitioner, actor and cultural activist, arrived in Europe in 1995 after working with different theatre and dance companies in South Africa and abroad. He travelled extensively during a period of research and collaborations. Worked with internationally acclaimed choreographers and teachers. He was nominated and won a number of prestigious choreography and dance awards. In 1999 he founded TeBogO Dance Ensemble (TBO), renamed TeBogO Dance – TBO, which since its inauguration has been invited to perform and teach in Europe and abroad. A holder of an MA degree in Choreography from the Dance Unlimited Programme of the ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands, was the first recipient of the international choreography bursary from the Michel Tesson Performing Arts Trust and subsequently the Creative Arts Foundation. He was a founding member of Artists Against Apartheid in 1985, he became a member of World Dance Alliance Europe (WDA) in 2002, he’s a member of the International Dance Council (CID) – UNESCO since 2004, and also a member of the Kunstenbond and Dansondernemers Nederland, respectively. Choreographically, he has put together a rich repertoire and continues research on his concept of the Afro- Butoh. Currently, he is working on a long-term and on-going interactive multidisciplinary crossover collaborative project, under the work title: “THE WALKING THROUGH: A Journey... A Memory... A Recollection ... The Meeting”, in which he invites other artists to collaborate with. His latest collaboration Butoh project, “The Wreckage Of My Flesh”, was selected to be part of the Esch2022 and Kaunas2022 programmes, as part of the European Capital of Culture 2022, in co-production with the National Museum of Resistance and Human Rights in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg and the Ninth Fort Memorial Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania, respectively.
