About your teachers
Fang Xi: Fang Xi started swing dancing in Montreal in 2014, when he got hooked after attending a two-for-one Groupon class (his then dance partner sadly didn’t continue). Since then, he’s danced and taught in the UK, has been dancing in Toronto since 2016, and teaching at UT-Swing since 2022. He likes to dance all of the classic styles of swing, but Lindy Hop is his first and true love.
Hyuna: Hyuna has been dancing swing dance since 2015, right here at UT-Swing! They have taught lessons and workshops for Lindy Hop and Collegiate Shag, and love to learn any and all styles of dance, including (but not limited to) Balboa, Blues, and Charleston. They want to share the joys of dancing in ways that are fun and comfortable for everyone!
“What is widely referred to as Collegiate Shag today is a dance that probably originated with college kids during the jazz and swing era. It’s usually associated with a 6-count basic, quick and flashy footwork and a chugging rhythm. It may be danced in closed position, open position or side by side.” (https://mel.swingpatrol.com/what-is-collegiate-shag/)
