Workshop Series: Bachata Was Always Sensual

*Will be challenging for Bachata beginners, but All levels are welcome* These workshops are as much about the Music as they are about the Moves. = Instructors: Dahkóta Romero, Edwin Ferreras Andrea Ude, Brian El Matatan = Bachata via Bolero Covers the dance Roots of Bachata as it pertains to its music/dance predecessor, the Antillean Bolero. The focus of this workshop will be on the original Bolero timing On3 “bass note timing,” the formal/salon framework and posture, various points of connection, and the essential shapes and figures. Bachata de Barrio (aka Regional Styles) Follows the development of Bachata as found within the various regions/barrios (or towns) in the Dominican Republic and their possible influences or resemblance to other styles (Merengue, Bolero, Son, Cha-Cha, etc). Also explores the generational, geographical, and/or social-economic factors that may affect the dancing from one region to the next. The workshop concludes with the diffusion of culture from D.R to New York following the internationalization of Bachata music and dance. Swagchata "Amargue" describes the bittersweet nature of traditional Bachata. The music is low to medium energy, with sensual vibe & lyrics. Unrequited love is a recurring theme. The moves are traditional but applied in a modern context. Contrary to popular belief, Traditional aka "Dominican Bachata" is not all about moving as fast as possible!
