About this Event

Connecting in and Opening out: A Contact Improvisation workshop to enhance embodied conversations & connected jamming How can we cultivate self-awareness while simultaneously being open to include the experiences of others? Our aim is to co-create an inclusive dynamic group dance. We will fine-tune our listening skills through somatic exploration, breath and touch to heighten conductivity in the dance. We will try out some group scores to enhance jamming together. We will explore the intersections of Nonviolent Communication & contact improvisation, verbally and nonverbally, and so heighten our capacity for compassion, flow and effective communication. As facilitators we are excited to bring our passion for these forms to help open a range of new possibilities. Our intention is to collectively create a safe space to play, dance & communicate, to challenge and nourish ourselves. We aim to balance contact improvisation technique (weight-bearing, lifts, changing levels) with verbal & nonverbal play, while amplifying our awareness of the experience of others. Alyssa Lynes is a dancer and teacher interested in how communication and creative expression play out in partner dance forms and in different environments. She has a BA in Contemporary Dance and a Masters of Science in education. She explores human expression through her choreographies and performances as well as her international teaching of contact improvisation. She is the co-director of a documentary on contact improvisation, "Five Ways In". Rob Kancler is a coach, bodyworker and teacher with an interdisciplinary background as a researcher of holistic health, permaculture, contact improvisation and Nonviolent Communication. He is most excited to promote personal empowerment & global responsibility through self-awareness, ecological literacy, and by supporting people to amplify their experience of pleasure, intimacy, embodiment & context.
