Over the weekend of March 7 The Tango Room is excited to present two extraordinary teachers who will be offering workshops designed for both leaders and followers who value connection, clarity of movement and the quality of their dance. Leaders and followers are not defined by gender. MAGDALENA GUTIERREZ, who with her partner Germán Ballejo won the Mundial in 2017, is an internationally acclaimed tango artist known for her profound artistry, elegant technique, and innovative approach to dance. She has captivated audiences across more than 40 countries, performing and teaching on some of the world’s most prestigious stages. When she was at The Tango Room last November she completely captivated us with her generosity of teaching and her elegance on the performance floor. LILIANA CHENLO, renowned tango master, dancer, and choreographer from Buenos Aires with over twenty years of international experience. Her classes integrate technique, creativity, and emotion, nurturing conscious, expressive, and confident dancers who embody tango as a living, evolving art. Her appearance at any milonga around the world draws a full house. SATURDAY, MARCH 7 WORKSHOP #1 1:00-2:30pm Embrace & Connection Without a doubt the most important parts of the dance - The Embrace, The Connection and The Walk. In this workshop you will work on how to share the energy with your partner and find your axis in order to dance with comfort, how to be present and expressive. WORKSHOP #2 2:45–4:15pm Intention of Movement How to give feeling to each step. Direction, intention and quality of movement so your tango doesn’t look like bunched-up sequences but becomes an in-the-moment experience. SUNDAY, MARCH 8 WORKSHOP #3 (in two parts) 3:00–4:30 and 4:45-6:00pm Musicality of different orchestras. Pugliese, DiSarli, Troilo, D’arienzo, Calo, Canaro, De Angelis, Tanturi. Because this is a complex and profound topic, Magdalena and Lily will devote two full workshops to understanding how to interpret the melody and rhythm, pass the music into the body and improve the quality of the rhythmic movement, the melody and density.
