World Lindy Hop Month - Level 1 Swing Series
This event is part of a series.

About this Event

In celebration of Frankie Manning's birthday and World Lindy Hop Day, we're learning many of his favorite moves throughout the month of May. Frankie was one of the early innovators of Lindy Hop dance and loved dancing so much that he inspired countless dancers all over the world for more than half a century. This month will cover many moves you haven't learned in a level 1 class yet! The KSDA focuses on the swing dance style born in 1930's Harlem from the Black dancers of the Savoy Ballroom, Lindy Hop. If you've attended a beginner drop-in lesson with us, you've done Lindy Hop! Dive into a month of material that progresses every week. Build off the skills covered in the beginner drop-in classes to expand your repertoire and become comfortable with many types of swing dancing movements. Join us for four 45 minute progressive lessons to help you get comfortable with a wide range of material. Throughout the month this series cover more basic patterns like circles (both 6 and 8 counts), rotation vs linear steps, swing outs, and other movements and turns. All dancers who have attended more than two beginner drop-in classes are strongly encouraged to attend this progressive Level 1 Swing series. Level 1 classes meet every Wednesday downstairs at the Laurel Theater from 7 - 8:15 pm. Classes are $8 a night ($2 discount for cardholders) and include admission to the dance. Purchase the month of lessons to receive one week free. Local students can request a free benefit card.
